John McMahon, General Manager of Mothering, has worked at the magazine on and off for 29 years. Born in Elma, NY, outside of Buffalo, John headed west in 1971 as an elementary school teacher. Teaching gave way to a desire for a home business and the 1980 purchase of the small magazine called Mothering with Peggy O'Mara. John left Mothering in 1989 and continued to work in the magazine industry. Always wanting to align work and career with the needs of the heart and the desire to help others, John returned to Mothering in 2001 to work in circulation, and now also oversees the general operation of the business. He has five children, all living in New Mexico and Colorado, with a fifteen year old still at home. John spends lunch hours (and often the weekends) at a swimming pool, keeping the joints loose and the mind flexible.

Laura Egley Taylor, Art Director, landed at Mothering in early 2004, delighted to find herself in an environment where her inabilty to grasp the concept of linear time was not a liability. Born a tarheel and raised in the Mississippi Delta, Laura came to Santa Fe by way of, amongother places, NYC—where she lost much of her Southernness (except for a residual appreciation for grits and the way co-worker Todd McCoy calls people "Hon") and found her lifelong love, Tim. She and Tim, much to their amazement, had a baby boy, Reeve, who miraculously grew up (linear or not, time flies!) and will be going off to study voice in Scotland in the fall. When not intuiting magazine production, Laura road-trips with Tim and Reeve to places no one's heard of, experiments with photography, makes a collage aday, and goes on long walks with Tim. She's grateful every day for the opportunity to work for an organization with real integrity andappreciates the committed creative people with whom she works.

Since moving to Santa Fe she has become a licensed massage therapist (specializing in prenatal and postpartum), a certified doula and childbirth educator. She is the proud mother of Jadyn (8) and Dian who was born at home in May 2009. Simone is an avid reader of all subjects, loves to travel, take photos, and tries to spend as much time outside as possible. Some day soon she plans to go back to school to study childbirth and the healing arts in other cultures-Indonesia specifically. PhD? Two little boys? She is confident she can do it! Simone is so grateful to have found the Mothering family and a work environment that not only allows her to bring Dian to work with her but is supportive of all her other endeavors.
Micki Garcia, Fulfillment Manager, recently graduated from Indiana University with her degree in biology and is currently pursuing a career in midwifery. She began working with Mothering in May, 2009 and enjoys having unlimited learning resources right at her fingertips! Micki grew up in Indianapolis and doesn’t care for green chile the way most people do but it doesn’t change the fact that she loves Santa Fe and has enjoyed her four years in the crisp New Mexican air. In her free time, Micki enjoys a good movie, a good book, and she’ll never be ashamed to admit that the only good meals she eats are the ones that are home-cooked by her mother.
