A Guided Meditation


I invite you, now, to stand, sit or lay comfortably as I take you on a guided mediation to give you more energy, grounding and expansion in your parenting.

Inhale a slow and full breath. Feel your ribcage expand as you hold your breath momentarily and then gently and slowly release the air, while maintaining a sense of expansion even as you exhale. Inhale and feel your feet reaching further beneath you, expanding your body from the waist down as you exhale. Inhale and feel yourself lengthening from the waist up, taller through your spine and neck, your head reaching for the sky as you exhale. Inhale and as you exhale direct the breath and energy out through your back and forward through your belly. Continue to breathe as you expand your energy in all directions. Start to take up more space beneath you, above you, in front of you, and behind you. Feel your centerline as you come in touch with the core of your being.

Connect now to yourself as located in time. You are living your life with your children, but you are also connected to people who have gone on before you, and to ever expanding circles of those will come to live their life after you.

Inhale fully and as you exhale, begin to connect now, to your own personal ancestry. Send out your gratitude to your foremothers and forefathers, your great aunts and uncles, your grandparents, your mother and father. Regardless of your relationship with your family, thank them now for doing the best they could do with their personal capacity. Thank them for at times just surviving and at times, thriving and most importantly, for giving you the gift of life.

Inhale, now and locate yourself as connected to all living things. There are certain aspects of our human experience that are modern and complex, but there are many aspects of our parenting that are as instinctual and timeless as it is for the animals around us. You are a part of the vast animal kingdom, intimately connected to the momma bear, the father lion, brother wolf, and sister tiger. As you connect to yourself through your continual expansive breath, feel the relief of knowing you are part of a large circle of parenting, of feeding and protecting, of teaching and caring, and of loving to no end.

Continue with your expansive breath. Grounded, expanded by your breath, and humble in the face of our small place in the vast collective human and animal experience, quiet the mind. End with stillness and three small, easy breaths.
