Tips For Healthy Management Of Anger

Article continues below

DON'T use sarcasm or belittle your child.
DO express honest feelings of anger in a respectful way.

DON'T hold in your anger until you have a big blow-up.
DO express anger as soon as you feel it.

DON'T attach feelings of shame to your or your child's anger.
DO accept anger as a natural part of life, like hunger, excitement and joy.

DON'T feel guilty for being human.
DO forgive and forget when it's over.

DON'T teach your child to stuff his feelings.
DO model healthy venting of ALL feelings.

Remember: as long as you are not abusive, anger shows you care. Your child will actually feel more secure with a genuine show of feelings than with your repressing emotions.
