Tips For Successful Family Meetings

Article continues below

1) Have a meeting at a regular time each week.

2) Let everyone take turns being the chairperson and secretary (if children are old enough).

3) Begin with appreciations.

4) Have a written agenda that family members create between meetings.

5) Use iI-messagesi when describing a problem.

6) Encourage everyone to suggest possible solutions, and listen well.

7) Strive for consensus and write down the solution.

8) If the solution is not followed, put it on the agenda again.

9) Use meetings for conflicts of needs rather than for conflicts of values.

10) Don't forget to use meetings to discuss fun or neutral topics as well.
