Recognized for journalistic excellence, and now reprinted in one 32-page, full-color publication, these articles contain information no parent should be without, including details on the use of the known neurotoxin mercury in flu vaccines, alarming evidence of the possible connection between vaccines and autism, exploration of the rise in chronic disease, stories of parental activism and advocacy on behalf of their vaccine-injured children, and the hopeful example of one child’s recovery from autism.

The National Vaccine Information Center

In April 1982, NBC broadcast the Emmy award-winning documentary "DPT: Vaccine Roulette," produced by consumer reporter Lea Thompson. Following that broadcast, a handful of parents in the Washington, DC, area--all of whom had children injured by vaccines--joined together and cofounded the nonprofit, educational organization Dissatisfied Parents Together (DPT). That organization grew into the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC).

NVIC cofounders worked with Congress to create the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986. In 1989, NVIC held the International Scientific Workshop on Pertussis and Pertussis Vaccine to evaluate the neurological complications of pertussis and the pertussis vaccine. In 1996, a purified pertussis vaccine was licensed after a decade of public advocacy work.

NVIC serves as a watchdog organization, monitoring vaccine research, development, policy-making, and legislation. The organization provides assistance to parents whose children have suffered vaccine reactions; promotes scientific research into vaccine safety, effectiveness, and reactivity; and advocates oversight mechanisms within the mass vaccination program and the right to informed choice regarding vaccination.

Cofounders Barbara Loe Fisher and Kathi Williams, as well as other NVIC board members and parents, represent vaccine safety concerns to vaccine safety committees, scientific conferences, government meetings, legislative hearings, and the media. NVIC calls for congressional oversight hearings to amend the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NVICP).
