Workouts Besides Running You Can Do with Your Jogging Strollers
Running isn’t the only workout you can do with your stroller. You can change up your workout by adding in some of these strength training exercises that use the stroller for support or that you can quickly do as intervals between short running bursts.
- HIIT workouts– Use the stroller for your cardio intervals and then do other strength training exercises like the ones below using your stroller:
- Incline pushups– Place your hands on the front of the stroller with your feet on the ground. Your body will be at a slight incline. Complete the pushup as usual for 15 reps.
- Decline pushups- Place your feet on the front of the stroller with your hands on the ground. Your body will be at a slight decline. Complete the pushup as usual for 15 reps.
- Balance/Bulgarian split lunges– With your back to the stroller, place your back foot on the front of your stroller. Complete a lunge as usual. Switch sides. Repeat 12 to 15 times on each side.
- Stroller squats– This is just like a regular squat only you can either hold onto the handlebar for stability, or you can stand in front of your child playing peek-a-boo. You can also make it a one-legged squat by holding onto the handlebar for stability and then squatting down on one leg while the other is raised about 6 to 8 inches off the ground. Do 10 to 15 regular squats or 10 to 15 one-legged squats on each leg.
- Walking lunges- Take your walk to the next level by slowing it down and lunging it out while you walk. Do 12 to 24 reps.
- Calf raises- Stand behind the stroller and, using the handlebar for stability, raise up onto your toes. Go back down but not all the way; slightly hover and then raise back up again. Repeat 12 to 15 times.
- Chest press– Find a slight hill. Stand with the stroller in front of you while it is going uphill and press it up the hill while keeping your feet firmly in place. Repeat 10 to 15 times.
- Rows- Find a slight hill. Stand with the stroller going downhill. Pull the stroller towards your chest. Repeat 10 to 15 times.
- Plank shoulder taps- Get into a plank position in front of the stroller. Sing “Row, Row Your Boat” as you tap the opposite shoulder, alternating between each shoulder. Repeat if desired.
- Walking– Who says you always have to run? Jogging strollers are great for taking brisk walks.
- Trail Jogs- Taking a walk around the neighborhood is great but local hikes or trails are a great change of scenery and they often offer plenty of hills to help get your legs pumping and working a little harder.
