When Someone Rocks Your Confidence: Exercise to Strengthen Internal Knowing

There are many “comments” in parenting. Sometimes well-meaning friends, family or teachers comment on your parenting or your baby/child’s behavior. It can be helpful to have a clear, direct line to your own feelings about the situation, as you navigate your response and course of action. This L.O.V.E. Parenting technique is used to access your inner wisdom.

•                Sit in a quiet room by yourself.

•                Take three deep breaths with slow, long exhales.

•                Quiet your mind: release chatter and clutter.

•                Conjure up the image of your baby/child.

•                Visualize the aspect of your parenting or baby/child that has been called into question.

•                Ask yourself a clearly if you agree with the concern expressed.

•                Listen to the first answer that comes into your mind.

•                Do you hear a “yes,” or a “no”?

Listen to your truth. If you hear a “yes,” at least you can deal with the situation understanding that you share the concern. If you hear a “no,” that doesn’t mean that the thought expressed doesn’t warrant further exploration, but at least you can lead the inquiry with the comfort and assurance of your own intuition.
