I have been told by a doctor that my son has asthma. He has a cough that started in December. The cough waxes and wanes, but started after an upper respiratory infection (URI). He has had an audible wheeze at times. As the cough has persisted even after his cold went away, I am beginning to concur with the diagnosis. I am, however, reluctant to use an inhaler, especially one containing a steroid. Are there complementary treatments?

Hey Sarah, I'm an otherwise-healthy 30 year old and about 18 weeks pregnant with my first! At about 11 weeks I experienced a very painful bout of sciatica. The sciatica was caused by two large fibroids on the top and lower right side of my uterus. I see a chiropractor about once a week, which has so far been the only thing that helps. However, I experience a lot of pain in my abdomen, hips, legs, and back at random times that can last for days before unexpectedly going away. Ultrasounds have shown the baby to be healthy and coming along nicely, so fortunately there are no worries there. I just continue to be very uncomfortable and have lost time at work. The pain wears me out and makes it difficult for me to accomplish much. It's hard to find a position that doesn't hurt, and exercising (or moving at all) is sometimes out of the question. The bigger I get and the more the baby moves, the worse it gets. I also look like I'm about 2 months ahead of where I actually am. So far I haven't been able to find any information past what a fibroid is and that they hurt. Can you offer any advice or encouragement? Thanks, Sachi

My nine month old son has form of epilepsy that is difficult to treat. In addition to three anti-epileptic drugs, we have tried several different complementary modalities, including acupuncture, Integrated Manual Therapy, and dietary changes. We are nervous to try chiropractic medicine because it is believed he suffered a stroke at birth. However, I've often wondered if it would help him. Is it safe for a child with his health concerns? Do you have any other suggestions?

My children's dentist has suggested using dental sealants to prevent cavities. Do you have any information about the safety and effectiveness of sealants? Could you point me in the right direction for finding information about dental sealants? Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I have a two-and-a-half week old baby girl who developed a cold I believe. Her nose is clogged and is now interfering with nursing, as she has difficulty breathing. So she does a lot of short nursing sessions, or we have to latch on more than once. The pediatrician says her lungs are fine and that's normal—but she is having a hard time breathing especially at nights. We tried saline solution, sitting her upright, aspirator and nothing comes out, breastmilk dropped in the nose, cold mist humidifiers. She is too young for most alternative solutions I know like ginger and onions. Please help us with any solutions for stuffiness in a baby this young.

I have been thinking about doing a whole body cleanse and wasn't sure what the most natural and safest method was. I am nursing and do not want it to have any effect on my son.
