Special Needs

Our second child was born with ease at home, as our first had been. But there she was, little and pale, with the almond-shaped eyes given to those with an extra 21st chromosome.

For years there has been a separation between those with and without disabilities. And while some of the distinctions have been positive, others have not been.

I can't remember the last time someone took a walk with Sonny when he was in his wheelchair, or invited him to the movies. Fortunately, Sonny has Reynolds, his canine companion.
