Common Sense Media was formed by concerned parents who believe that by sharing good common sense ideas we can create healthy media diets for our kids and a powerful voice that speaks up for responsible entertainment.

Sanity: Not Censorship
We believe that parents deserve another choice besides saying "no." Media is fun, and our kids love it. We exist to keep it fun. By creating a grassroots movement of concerned citizens, we aim to make the media producers accountable to families and urge them to invest and promote programming that serves the interests of our kids.

Our mission is to give parents, educators, and kids a choice and a voice about the media they consume. We are a non-partisan, non-profit organization. Membership is free. Our goal is to provide trustworthy information and create a forum where adults and kids can learn from each other, speak out, and participate in creating a responsible and enjoyable media environment for everyone.

Information
"Know your media" is one of our core ideals. Turn to our Media Guide to know what's inside movies, television programs, video games, music and books, before you or your kid buys or experiences them. We want to help you get to the good stuff fast. Inside, you'll find timely reviews with recommendations based on content and age.

Action
Our site allows you and your kids to do more than read you can help make a difference by rating the media yourself, and sharing your points of view with other parents and kids. We also make it easy to write those who created it and tell them what you think.

Communication
Our weekly e-newsletter, Common Sense Media Alert, contains reviews, pics, pans and news and research reports. Regular features include scientific findings about the media that directly affect yoru kids, recommended lists by age and stage of development, and tips and tools from some of the nation's child-rearing experts.

Speaking Up For Our Kids
Sometimes it can feel like you're both alone and powerless when it comes to the media choices for kids. A big part of our job is to let the media and our government leaders see for themselves how parents and kids rate the media, and what they really think. Common Sense Media has become a respected national voice in the media policy arena urging - among other initiatives - age appropriate media content, transparency and consistency in media ratings, diversity of programming and ownership.
