Long ago, people grew afraid when each day had fewer hours of sunshine than the day before. Over time, they realized that one day each year the sun started moving toward them again. In lyrical prose this book explains what the winter solstice is and how it has been observed by various cultures throughout history.

When Sam's classmates take turns talking about which holiday they celebrate, Sam becomes very nervous. Some people celebrate Christmas and some people celebrate Hanukkah. But Sam celebrates both! Written by a clinical psychologist, My Two Holidays offers comforting explanations that shine a light on how special it can be to celebrate two treasured holidays instead of one!

The winter solstice, the day the "sun stands still," marks the longest night and the shortest day of the year. Storyteller Carolyn McVickar Edwards retells twelve traditional tales—from North America, China, Scandinavia, India, Africa, South America, Europe, and Polynesia—that honor this magical moment. These are stories that will renew our wonder of the miracle of rebirth and the power of transition from darkness into light.

It’s Kwanzaa-time! Light the candles on the kinara!  Fly the bendera, and tell stories from Africa! The seven principles of Kwanzaa, called the Nguzo Saba, serve to remind African Americans of the struggles of the past, and also focus on present-day achievements and goals for the future.  Activities at the end of the book include making your own cow-tail switch and baking benne cakes.

No book has captured the magic and sense of possibility of the first snowfall better than The Snowy Day. Universal in its appeal, the story has become a favorite of millions, as it reveals a child's wonder at a new world, and the hope of capturing and keeping that wonder forever.

From the warm glow of holiday candles in the menorah to the fun of family gatherings, little dinosaurs love to celebrate the Festival of Lights. But sometimes the excitement of Chanukah, its treasured rituals, and the tradition of gifts can tempt a youngster to misbehave. Come along on a joyful romp filled with tumbling dreidels and melting gelt as America's favorite prehistoric pals spread a little mischief this season.

I reviewed the book "The Snowy Day". It would be great to win a gift certificate for some of these wonderful books.
I reviewed "The Snowy Day."  Thanks for the opportunity and the great list of books!
I reviewed the book The Night Before Christmas.  Here's to hoping I win! :)  A few Christmas books would make an excellent Christmas present!
I reviewed The Polar Express by Chris VanAllsburg.  I cannot wait to read some of the books on your list.  Many are new to me and look like beautiful additions to my daughter's Christmas book advent :)

Thanks for the opportunity to win a gift certificate for my family's favorite thing-books!
I reviewed The Snow Queen, it's always been one of my favorites!

I would also add to this list Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates. We had it as an audio story when I was a child, and I just returned this beautifully illustrated copy to the library: http://www.amazon.com/Hans-Brinker-Bruce-Coville/dp/0803728689/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1386467701&sr=1-6&keywords=hans+brinker+or+the+silver+skates
We haven't read most of these, so it's nice to be introduced to new holiday books! Our favorite on the list, that we know about, it Bear Stays Up. The stories of Bear are just delightful, and the illustrations in these books are beautiful!....Just beautiful! The "Bear" books are some of our favorite!
I reviewed "The Polar Express". This is a great list of books. Thanks.
Shouldn't SNOW QUEEN and MIRACLE OF THE FIRST POINSETTIA be linked to Barefoot Books rather than Amazon?
@bibanon1 - It doesn't matter, Amazon is just one of the many retailers for Barefoot Books. The price modules you see in this guide can only display pricing for big retailers such as Amazon. And if anyone wants to buy one Barefoot Book and one non-Barefoot Book, they can do so in one single transaction, since all links in the modules above go to Amazon.
Done! Reviewed polar express.
I left a review for The Night Before Christmas (one of our favourites)
Thanks for sharing your reviews everyone! Just drew a random winner to receive two books. Congrats @Astraia!! I'll email you. :)
