New Study Affirms Bed-sharing with Toddlers OK

A study released July 18 in Pediatrics, the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, has found that “There seem to be no negative associations between bed-sharing in toddlerhood and children’s behavior and cognition at age 5 years.”

The study looked at data from 944 families with children ages 1-5.

I believe it to be a situation where "to each their own" is the best motto. I have raised several children and they are each individual in their comfort zones and where they could find rest the easiest. It is most important for all parents to get sleep. Where-ever it is convenient and comfortable for everyone is how it should be. Some children need consistent and continual holding and cuddling and others are happy with a good nice kiss and a story. Either way, both parents and children need to sleep. I would advise every parent to have a bed big enough in their bedroom to allow all their children to sleep with them at some time or another, or when there is a thunderstorm. Children need their own space to "call their own" and sleep in when they want to or when mom and or dad carries them back to their bed when they fall asleep so they can have occasional "space". It's a giving thing.
I totally agree! A large enough bed is essential...as well as a space to call their own! Five year old grandson often joins his dad, mom and almost 2 year old sister in the family bed...yet sometimes prefers his own bed. He also likes to sleep with me and cuddle when I visit and I love it! He is so joyful and wonderful as is his little sister. I applaud my daughter and her husband for their amazing parenting skills!
Not that I needed a study to validate my own intuition but I'm grateful for articles like this in the hopes that they can cause a shift in main-stream thinking.
