But two days after four-year-old Jarnell Brown of Minneapolis accidentally swallowed the heart, he died. The charm wasn't silver—it was lead. Dear Naomi - I'm not sure what to do about my 3 children & thier buying habits. We usually only go to our local thrift store or the dollar store, but it seems like all they ever want to do is buy. I tell them that we can't be spending money because we have a very limited income, but they are all under the age of 6, so I'm not sure they comprehend this money issue. We don't have a t.v., so it's not like they are seeing toys they want to buy (or even magazine ads, etc). They just think that whenever they want something that we go & "buy it." It may be hard to find time to take care of yourself, but here’s a simple treatment for your tired eyes. Steep one chamomile tea bag in 1 cup boiling water in a large mug for 5 minutes. Remove the teabag and allow the tea to cool. Add 1 cup rose water to tea. Chill in refrigerator. Soak two cotton pads in the mixture. Place them on your eyelids and leave on for 5 minutes. Try this anytime of the day you get a few minutes or at bedtime. You can purchase rose water in any grocery store. read more

Hi Eden, I was wondering if there was a way to prime cloth diapers without using hot water and washing a zillion times. I do not have hot water running to my washing machine at the moment and I thought it would be ideal to find a way to not waste a bunch of water getting this job done. I heard boiling with vinegar might be effective? What would you recommend?It is certainly worth a try but I have never done it myself!  You could also run them through the dishwasher a few times.  I have heard of that working as a way to stip diapers in need so I imagine it would work... read more

We have a one and a half year old and a baby due in a few months. We would love to use cloth diapers for both—we hate the idea of plastic and chemicals next to their skin for so many hours a day. However, we have no experience with cloth diapers and have no idea where to start. What do we need? What is the best "system" (all-in-ones, prefolds and covers, etc.)? After becoming a parent, I desperately wanted to do better, live healthier, be more aware, for myself and my child.
