The Art of Intuition

By Winter Robinson Issue 105 March-April 2001 My grandmother knew things beyond the familiar realm of the senses. When I was a child, I asked my mother, "But how does she know? How did she know what time we'd arrive today, when we didn't tell her we were coming?" "She just knows." Grandma lived on a cotton farm in the middle of Georgia , without a telephone. We lived in the mountains of North Carolina , a good ten hours away. Our visits always were random and spontaneous; she never had any advance warning that we were on the way. In an attempt to surprise his mother,... read more

Meditating With Silas

By Aaron Teasdale Web Exclusive After a half hour of mindful breathing my morning meditation session is interrupted by Silas, the indefatigably curious three-year-old ball of mischief. For several days now he has been sneaking upstairs into the meditation room and sabotaging my daily attempts at stillness. I've calmly explained to him that when Daddy is meditating, Daddy doesn't want to talk. A zafu sits on the floor next to mine and Silas knows he's welcome to meditate with me whenever he wants, but no talking. Twice, with my gentle coaching, he's sat on the cushion,... read more

Jeannine Parvati Baker ~ A Remembrance

By way of onomatopoeia, the very word yogini sounds like the image of Jeannine Parvati Baker in full-flowering asana mastery: lithe stems curling around o-so-full center of heartful breath. At once elfin and elegant. A bold design, a weaver of words. And gone far too soon. Jeannine would have been sixty-three today. Prefacing an extensive interview with her, Michael Mendizza writes that Jeannine was “a yogini, midwife, herbalist, published author, and poet. She was also an international activist on the matters of homebirth, unassisted childbirth and newborn... read more

plan to feel

How do you want to feel this week? Stop and think about it right now. Close your eyes and take a good in-breath/out-breath if it helps. {It will help.} What would feel really, really, good to feel? Connected. Free. Light. Creative. Influential. Powerful. Healed. Rich. Pretty. Strong. Leadership. Quality. Sweet. Sexy. Robust. Close to nature. Fresh. Excited. Vibrant. Quiet. Playful. Adored. Productive. Sensuous. Peace. Colour. Focused. Complete. Hone in on the three feelings you want to generate this week. Write those three... read more

Mom Medicine: Offering Up the Day to a Sick Child

By Valerie Schultz Issue 104, January - February 2001 A random germ has plucked this day from the parade of usual days. The list of things I planned to do today remains just that--an unchecked-off list. This morning my two year old (whom I still think of as "the baby") vomited raisin bran down the front of my shirt. That was all she wrote. All my scheduled errands, chores, and goals evaporated. Left in their place, to fill the hours, was a sick child. Some of my clearest childhood memories are of sick days, with my mother's cool, satin cheek against my burning... read more

Essential Oils: The Importance of Purity

There are so many essential oils on the market that it can be challenging to know which to buy and why.  Prices vary, often dramatically so for the same oil, even among those labeled “100% Pure”.  So why the difference and does it really matter? The answers to those questions depend on the reasons you’re using the oil.  If you simply want an oil to diffuse for a nice aroma, then it probably doesn’t matter which you buy.  If I were going to buy an essential oil for that purpose alone, then I would probably go with the cheaper one as long as it was labeled... read more

are you positively addicted?

So here’s my new favourite concept: positive addiction. I just love the sound of it. It’s righteous and honest … a great combo. “I’m hooked, but it’s all good. No, really. I’m addicted, but it is positively healthy.” Like it. I was talking to a friend today (okay, it was my shrink,) about my almost, no my definitely insatiable need for the entrepreneurial rush. “It’s a total high for me.” I explained. “Going from zero to sixty. I mean, the very definition of velocity makes me horny {distance over time.} I love having an idea when I’m walking the dog late at... read more

May The Force Not Be With You!

If the “control force” is great with you, don’t turn it onto your spouse and your kids. Use it to control your own stuff – work, clutter, books, clothing or whatever, if you must. Just don’t turn that control beam onto the people you love as it will only move you further away from connection. www.asktheshepherdess.com   About Chaley-Ann Scott Chaley-Ann Scott is a parenting author, sociologist, counsellor, and mother-of-four. Is Marijuana a Valuable Treatment for Autism?

by Bernard RimlandI am not an advocate for drugs, either legal or illicit. I have never smoked and I don’t care at all for alcohol. I agree with Oliver Wendell Holmes: “I firmly believe that if the whole materia medica could be sunk to the bottom of the sea it would be all the better for mankind and all the worse for the fishes.” Recently, our newsletter, Autism Research Review International, published a letter from a father in New Jersey whose teenage autistic son had become extremely assaultive, sending members of his family to the hospital and requiring police... read more

Much to the Dismay of the "Skeptics," Homeopathy Is Boosted in Many Countries Around the World

by Amy L. Lansky, PhD For more information about homeopathy, please visit: www.impossiblecure.com. I often write about the tactics of the quackbuster groups around the world and their efforts to smear all medical alternatives, with homeopathy being their favorite target. Luckily, all is not bleak!  There are countries in the world that have benefited so much from homeopathy, or have sufficient neutrality, courage, and honesty to evaluate the evidence and give homeopathy its due, that they boost homeopathy for their citizens — no matter what Big Pharma... read more
