and came her specifically to report it in the March thread. Since it appears that no one else has been making food worth talking about I figured I would start the thread, posthaste!
So now that everyone is expecting some sort of amazing and awesome meal...
Tonight I made roasted garlic mashed potatoes, roasted broccoli and.....
Chickpea cutlets!
No gravy because I forgot to buy mushrooms and didn't have any packets, so we just squeezed some lemon juice on top
Jadzie - when I made the pasta della California I added fresh red peppers to it instead of the crushed red peppers. It was good.
Tonight it is seitan and vegetable pot pie with a salad on the side. I am cooking quinoa in pineapple juice right now for the quinoa-cashew-pineapple stir fry from Veganomicon and it smells really good. I am planning on having that tomorrow.
Tonight we had homemade pizza: pesto (from VwaV) with sun-dried tomatoes, sauteed portabello mushrooms, dollops of pine nut cream sauce (from Vcon) and sliced tomatoes. It was suuuuuper yummy! I'm in love with pine nut cream sauce - that stuff can do no wrong.
Tonight was potato, kale & mushroom soup (our fave!). My veggie-ish DSister is in route as I type and will be here tomorrow with her omni DBF for a week. Not sure how much time I'll have to post, so I'll share our menu plans now:
Tomorrow (Sunday): Baked potato bar (planning a big, late lunch out)
Monday: Coconut Curry Noodle Soup w/tofu (Vegan Express)
Tuesday: Some sort of homemade pizzas featuring pesto or Banana Walnut Waffles (Veganomicon)
Wednesday: Out
Thursday: Potato Kale Enchiladas w/chile sauce (Veganomicon), Cilantro Lime Rice & Drunken Pintos (Vegan Express)
Friday: Out
Made the Veganomicon cheezy sauce tonight. I'm not a huge nutritional yeast fan, but this worked for me. I'll definitely be having it on my potato tomorrow night!

I really have to get myself a copy of this book I think! First I need to save some $ though..
Until then I suppose you wouldn't be willing to possibly share the recipe with us? Pleeeeease!?!?
Our menu for next week is as follows:
Sunday
Mashed Potatoes and Country Style Gravy
Sweet and Sour Cabbage
Peas
Peach Sorbet
Thank you for that link, Val! I sure can always use new ideas!
Today's food is Masala pattys, naan, and biryani rice - all courtesy of Trader Joe's. Dh and ds are backpacking and camping (in the snow - San Diego had a surprise winter storm last night) and I'm on my own.
My very first batch of homegrown sprouts are ready to eat too!
My sister lived in Italy for 3 years. Her dh was also USN. They were stationed in La Madalena. (I don't think I spelled that right.) It was a great opportunity for their family. Best of luck on your move!
Yeah, they don't transfer people to La Madalena anymore. I think they're closing the base there as they have the others in Naples and in Sigonella, Sicily.
I can't wait to go back to Europe! Besides me being German (I only live here in the US now since 3 yrs), DH & I lived in Portugal for 5.5 yrs and both loved it. It's just different than here
WOW - I've been absent from this thread for the entire month. I'm really missing the inspiration you mama's give me!!
Tonight we are having Irish Soda Bread (home-made), and Shepherd's Pie with lentils as the "meat". And, I'm having a Guinness. I don't know if Guinness is vegan beer, but it is St. Patty's day, and I've gotta have a Guinness!!
Roast Chicken , steamed brocolli, celery root puree, greek salad. mmmmm and am thinking about a no bake cherry cheese cake I saw on "Nigella Express" this morning . . . yummy

Blue Nile
We tried that other restaurant once, but did not care for it much. It was very bland. My DH said it tasted like a "Trader Joe's frozen entree version of Ethiopian". I thought that was right on the mark. Something about it was very "canned" tasting.

Oh, that's funny! I dislike Blue Nile, but the other one is one of our favorite places--in large part because they let you take home the leftovers!

Funny! Although, I will say the Ann Arbor Blue Nile just isn't as good as the one in Ferndale. We used to live within walking distance of the Ferndale restaurant- I miss that!

We live within walking distance of the Ferndale Blue Nile! Love that place, but it is pricey. We tried a new place in Southfield the other day, but weren't that enthused by the food. The owner was really nice, but the food did not compare to Blue Nile.

Yeah, we live within walking distance of Red Sea--that might be part of my love for the place, too.
Tonight was kind of a random assortment of things we needed to use up: I fried up some tempeh, which I served over chopped up leftover baked potatoes and then topped that with almond sauce (peanut sauce with almond butter subbed, so DS could eat it). On the side was quinoa-black bean salad and a green salad with balsamic vinaigrette.
Where are all the mamas at?! I'm beginning to feel like a thread killah...
Tonight was my solo night (DH works) so it was leftover quinoa with steamed broccoli and peas and cubed smoked tofu with leftover almond (peanut) sauce. I think I'm going to start eating peanut sauce on everything, yum! And this smoked tofu rocks! It's Soy Boy, I've never had it before, but DS ate a bunch earlier straight out of the package, so it's toddler approved.
Well, I'll post Keeta and everybody can snicker at our dinner. We are having Frito pie. Yes, Frito pie. I did veganize it but still it is junk however there is a reason. Dd (aged 22) broke up with her boyfriend of 3 years last night and she needed mama to make her some comfort food. What is more comforting than salty, greasy, junk food?
We might just have to have some chocolate for dessert.
