So....bikini wax at 35 weeks?

OK so I've never had a bikini wax before, but given the state of affairs in the nether regions, I'm considering it. I called a spa and they said it takes about 3-4 weeks before you would need to have it done again (when it gets all itchy from growing out), which puts me around 38-39 weeks. Is it a bad idea to do it now with the possibility that I'll be giving birth just as things start to get uncomfortable down there again?

What are y'all doing, if anything, about the bikini area? It's not that I really care how it looks, but it is uncomfortable to have all that growth!

I have heard that especially in the end of pg, all the extra blood flow/pressure to the area can make waxing especially sensitive. I have never tested that theory so no first hand experience. I get annoyed with all the extra growth in this stage of pg because of all the discharge so I just trim some with scissors, well as best as I can without actually being able to see the area.

Jumpin in from the May DDC...I'm almost 32 weeks and just the other night got fed up at the whole area and spent (i kid you not) over an hour shaving it. It took me f.o.r.e.v.e.r to do it because of this belly. If I weren't on bed rest I would definitly be doing what you are thinking about!!

I've waxed previously...Brazilian

But I don't think I could handle that now at this stage of pregnancy. I just got dh to trim for me down there a week ago, since I felt so scared doing it myself like I usually do. He just used a comb and some hair scissors, and I was good to go

i just grab a mirror and hope i dont cut anything off down there - lol- then trim myself. even that takes a long time. i am SO swollen down there anyway and tender, i cant even imagine what a wax would do to me! ow! lol. but i def see the convenience in it. not long before i had dd1, my ob "warned" me that he thought she would be coming within the next week or so. i went home and shaved everything- took me at least an hour like the above poster. i was nice and tidy looking when she was born im sure (er, as far as the hair went), but during labor that was the last thing on my mind!

I got a Brazilian (my 1st) at the begining of this pg and have just since then shaved clean. Now that I can't sse down there I use my dh's shower mirror (they don't steam up like normal ones) and a NEW razor. That is very important- you don't want to nick yourself and that is most likely to happen w/a dull razor. Also there is a lot of touching/feeling to make sure you didn't miss any spots. If you have never shaved before or have extra "growth" I suggest you trim with safety/round tipped scissors first- round won't poke you!
and they are sharp enough to cut hair- all my girl's have given themselves "bangs" with safety scissors!

This will be the first time I'll be "clean" down there after giving birth and kind of strangly excited about it.Ok I am offically weird here too now.

This what's keeping me from doing it...

Ouch!

I let DH do the trimming for me at this stage- he uses like beard trimmers or something, its like what they use for men at the barber shop but smaller. It seems to work fine, not that I can se it, but at least minimizes my risk of cuts.

Thanks for starting this thread Amy! LOL

So, I used to shave clean (between) my legs.... and kept everything up top neatly trimmed.

Right before getting pregnant I started getting brazillian waxes.... LOVED IT!

Then I started doing it to myself in early pregnancy (pretty good job, only slightly more painful than having someone else do it)... but it got to the point where I just couldn't see down there anymore! (nor could I bend myself to that point!)

I can't stand overgrowth, so I bravely shave between the legs again (using my hand without the razor to feel my way around before "going for it") and stand in front of a mirror with DH's trimmer (with a #2 clip on attachment) and trimmed everything in front down neatly. So far, I'm definitely happy with this routine and will continue it up until I go into labor.

After having been waxed before, I definitely wouldn't go for that now. And even though I've never really had a problem with everything growing back in... you never know (and the LAST thing you want right now is itchy bumpy and red girly parts!). I can't even imagine having that condition lingering around if I were to unexpectedly go in to labor! BLAH!

HTH!

I know - that would be awful!!

I'm glad y'all have responded! I've never waxed so I wasn't sure how painful it would be, but I can see how it would be even moreso now with the extra sensitivity.

DH has a beard trimmer so I will check that thing out and see if I can manage it on my own, or have him do it for me.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I love the beard trimmer! I don't do much, just a little trim to keep the hair from poking wildly out of my bathing suit.

HAH! I just trimmed this week (way overdue). I use the beard/hair trimmer, no attachment. Can't shave anyway as I'm so prone to ingrown hairs. I wish there were a spa/salon that would trim for you!

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend doing SOMETHING... I made the mistake with my first pregnancy of thinking... oh, I'll just do it after the baby is born... won't have all this baby belly in they way... yeah... I was overgrown (for my taste) by the birthday, and then it was weeks before I cared to venture down there with anything sharp!

I would get waxed right now! I've never experienced discomfort from the regrowth when I wax. When I shave it's a nightmare because I get a million itchy bumps the next day. I waxed at 28 weeks and didn't have any problems with swelling or extra discomfort due to pregnancy. I can't see down there well enough to do it again although I would love to so I don't have to keep shaving. Normally I go long periods of time between shaving but since I'm dropping my pants for the midwife every week now I've got to keep things looking nice! lol

I feel like a new woman today!!
: I'm so glad I asked y'all for advice! I did manage to shave (really well, actually, and without a mirror!) and then used the beard trimmer to tame everything else. Ahhhh.

WOW! All you who can do the waxing in general are far more better with that stuff than I!
I have only had my upper lip and eyebrowns done, while it wasn't horrible, I could not imagine that sensation down there. And that while pregnant! WOW!

I just trimmed recently so the jungle wasn't quite so dense, but that's about all i'm planning on doing.

It's honestly the best feeling EVER IMO (brazilian wax)

But I'm in fear of things growing in and getting bumpy (and itchy and red) which has happened once before. Nothing I can think of worse than that feeling right now! With everything else my pregnant body is dealing with..... that would definitely be the last straw!

GL - and ENJOY! (DH or DP too!)

Wow, just wow. It still amazes me the number of women who like this. I tried it once and can't stand the naked feeling and HATED the way it looked. We are meant to have pubic hair and my personal feeling is that naked genitalia is some porn industry ideal that has been perpetuated. Maybe that is just the feminist in me. I don't want to offend anyone, but felt I would chime in with the opposite view. And I hope no one is doing this because they think their health care providers will be grossed out by it. As long as it is clean, I don't think anyone cares how long it is.

I have to admit I've been terrible about any type of shaving. I get my arm pits but i just shaved my legs for the first time in probably 5 months...It's winter here so no need to! Dh likes my smooth legs but he isn't bothered when I don't. As for down there...I just trim with scissors and use the beard trimmer on the bikini area. I havn't done this in months...I was not all trimmed for DD's birth so that really doesn't bother me, but I didn't think about how sensitive I might be after baby is born and with having a DD age 4 I might be using my swimsuit much sooner....so I will be trimming it up.

I think DH would love the brazilian just for something different, but I break out and get ingrown hairs from shaving and other things, I'm not sure I want to risk trying a brazilian anytime soon. For me, a little hair down there is good for the body, keeps the bacteria out of that area, and for someone prone to that it's something worth keeping!

I'll be trimming tonight! Thanks for the post Amy! I'm glad we are not shy about these things!!!!!

I can tell you, as a doula, I've seen it all from au natural to completely shaved and everything in between, and there's no gross-out factor involved or even expectation from your caregiver(s). Honestly. Things are so open now, and there are so many configurations and possibilities (I had a mama who actually had a heart shape up top and no one even commented on it
) that nothing is really surprising.

I think it should be what YOU are comfortable with, regardless if what's "supposed" to be down there or not. There shouldn't be pressure either way, as far as I'm concerned, no matter which way the cultural ideal pendulum is swinging at the moment...

I shaved bare about five years ago as an experiment, and just never went back. The hair growth is really annoying to me now... but I did stop shaving about eight weeks ago, after I cut myself (for the first time in five years, mind you!) and decided to go "au naturale" for the birth and shave again after it was all over and I can see down there again!

But I can't wait to shave again, I admit it. I don't like the feel of the hair growth, and I don't like hair getting caught in the elastic of my panties AND... I miss the increased sensation from being shaved. TMI, I know...

That won't happen if you go Gold, lol.

I'm used to wax (even if I've been using an epilator for a couple of years now) but since the second trimester, my skin is so sensitive that I just can't !
I don't care about my hair, it's something I think is just natural but I my husband doesn't like it, so... Last time I tried to wax my armpits it was so painful I had to wait for the next day to do the second one and it kept hurting for a few days so, sorry guy but you'll have to wait :p (I cannot even imagine how it would feel to wax my bikini now...)

Actually, I didn't even think of what could think my mw but... Well, I really don't think she cares

Maybe I have a higher pain tolerance than I thought because I don't think waxing is that painful! lol As long as I control it, it doesn't bother me. I can't imagine having a professional do it though! I went Brazilian for the first time ever about 7 weeks ago for our anniversary. DH had been requesting I try it at least once for several years so I decided to surprise him....and we both hate it! lol I'm letting it all grow back now. I don't like looking like a little girl! I was hoping it would be all grown in by now, but it's only about 1/3 of the way there. If I had known I would still be looking pretty bare by this point in pregnancy I wouldn't have done it. But at least I'll have less hair to deal with after the birth!
