Welcome to the MARCH decluttering challenge!!
If you participated in last month's challenge, feel free to share your accomplishments & what you'd like to do differently this month.
Post your goal- whether it is number of items gone, number of bags, rooms, whatever works for you
Are there items that haven't been used in a long time, are just taking up space, or have been outgrown? Time to get those outta there!
Last month I met my goal of 250 items. I think I reached 280 or so, so I was pretty psyched about that
This month I'm going to shoot for 300 items.. I know my laundry room will add quite a few to my total
Getting rid of two large kennels I have no use for - Kitty Angels is coming today to pick them up Yay, seems like they should count for more since they are sooo big.
209/500 (if I'm going to get to 500, I'm going ot have to step it up!)
Doesn't count for my house, but I just cleaned out two bookcases in my boss's office and recycled two boxes of magazines and two boxes of computer paper!
We did another big clean of the playroom on the weekend. I've already removed SO many toys. But we managed to get another HUGE box (about 100 items) out of the playroom, plus a bag of garbage (broken old crayons, ratty coloring books, food items that had found their way in, broken toys).
So we're up to:
350/1000.
I'm optimistic that this number will jump up this week, as I'm planning to tackle the dreaded craft/sewing room. OooOOoooooo.
Today I organized our dresser and went through clothes I had in a tote in the basement. It feels a lot less "cluttery" and more organized. I also got rid of a few things along the way.
The best part though, is that my DH lost his wedding ring a few months ago. We were so devestated. Today, I went to look for a paper bag with a handle on it to put the clothes in to take to charity. When I opened the bag, I found DH's wedding ring!!!
5 - umm. expired condoms
8 - pieces of clothing to be taken to charity.
13 items today
279/250 - original goal met
29/250 - toward second goal
We've done 3 babgs of clothes, several garbage bags of bathroom crap, a bin full of useless laundry room junk, a box of toys....I'd estimate 300/500...I'm actually doing well with this challenge!!
Okay, I did a lot of toy sorting today, but the toys that I sorted for my mom's club sale and those to go to my parents house for hand-me-down storage havne't actually left the house yet, so I'm not going to count them, but I did physically throw away maybe 35 things that were broken or whatnot, so I'm going to count those!
And today, someone from the local no-kill cat shelter came to pick up the large kennels I had from shipping our cats cross country - they were so big it was a pain to lug a 10 lb cat to the vet! They'll get good use for them. Plus their attaching dishes. Yay!
So that puts me at ... 248 / 500. Wow, not much time left to double what I've done so far.... yikes!
Well I found a storage tote in my closet that I had thought was just fabric. Turns out my parents brought it from their house some time long ago and it's my stuff from showing horses. So I got rid of my old 4H project books, horse catalogs from 1997 and some other out-dated stuff.
I'm stuck though because it also had a bunch of ribbons, nice grand champ ones, not the flimsy ribbons that I can't remember winning. It also had some plaques and such from win I did horse judging. I really have no use for these but looking at them was quite the trip down memory lane. So I put them back in the tote for now. I could get rid of them but I'm not sure I wanna.
So after the old calenders, cassette tapes and horse junk I got rid of 49 things. I also took Atticus's baby clothes to goodwill. That was another 12 items.
So glad I found this thread. It's a little late in the month so I'm going to just say 100 items!
I have condoms to get rid of too. my dh came home with a HUGE box of them after about 6 weeks pp
-we used them the frst 6 months and that was it so there were a lot left. not expired. should i take them to the local mission? i took pads and tampons but i might be too embarrased.
I have a guilt complex about throwing things away that are still good...................
can't wait to start decluttering..off to clean the barn right now
Got started this morning and can now close my dresser drawers again!!!
Here's the list:
6 skirts
10 sweaters
1 pair shorts
9 shirts
2 dresses
1 pajamas
5 pants
39 - 1 trash bag full of broken toys, counting the million piece foam puzzle the cat chewed up as 30 or so.
2 more bags of toys marked for the sale, but I'll count those when they leave the house.
I threw out 4 count them FOUR mice from 'if you give a mouse a cookie' - ALL with their tails chewed off by my cat. I had no idea we had that many! My daughter noticed one in the trash and asked about it, but didn't seem concerned when I explained it was chewed and yucky.
I just got rid of 50 items from my basement! I still have a LONG way to go down there though! When I came home from work DD and DH were sleeping, so I quickly pumped, and got to work down there! We have been stocking up on non-perishable items for next year when income will be lean while I'm in school, now I have a place to put them since I cleaned off my shelves! YEA!!
: I did try to go through my "wedding" box. It has a few keepsakes, but mostly left over decorations, ribbons, programs, material, etc from the wedding. I want to make a cute little shadow box out of some of the stuff, but I dont feel like I can throw anything out until I make it, so I can use whatever I want! I only got rid of a few things in there, SO I guess I need to go get a shadow box, so I can get rid of more!!
I've gotten rid of around 50 items the last couple of weeks. My parents came and visited us last week. My mom helped me get through a bunch of stuff. There's a couple smaller boxes DH needs to go through but all the other boxes are unpacked and gotten rid of.
I know i dropped out...been stressed! but I'm decluttering right now so here's my current count:
1 infant swing
3 bags of garbage from stuff *sitting around*
1 bag of garbage from the bathroom *stuff*
8 articles of *H*'s clothes (so far...stay tuned..he has a LOT of stuff...and its all going bye bye! along with him! (does he count as decluttering?
) ah well)
16 articles of outgrown/unused/unloved clothing from me and my precious boys!
76/500
I need to catch up eek. looks like I will just carry my goal over into April
1 bra with a broken underwire (I wore it 3 times with it poking me
1 yankee candle holiday ceramic top that DD broke the other day cuz she thought it was fun to bang it with something (I could repair it, but I'm letting it go...)
6 sheets and towels too ratty for human donations off to the animal shelter
5 broken hangers, trashed
2 random purple sparkly makeup stuff, not even sure what it is!
1 halloween makeup kit, age unknown
1 bag of lavender, wedding favor, lavender makes my eyes itch
45 baby and infant toys packed up for hand me downs to brothers future kids - off to storage in my parents house!
349/500
You know, I had been eyeing this thread for months kinda thinking - man what a waste of time to list and count everything, but now I'm seeing what a motivator it is for me to really GET it out o fthe house, since actually getting it to the charity or whatnot is my biggest hurdle right now!
