hi mama, I have a lil bit of info for you Mauldin area is growing, not in the city per say tho. A few on areas.... Mills Ave (29605), West end (29601) or North Main are walkable, diverse areas. Oh nice park (cleaveland) by the zoo has a neighborhood of older art decoish type homes. Another area of homes I love is sans succi, not sure on walkability. My sil lives in 29607 zip and loves it Whole foods is on Woodruff Road. Earth Fare is on Pelham.... if hf type...
Thank you for all the support and advice. We've been weeding thru article after article, and just now beginning to grasp it all. A bump in our journey is finding help; rural-ish areas aren't best for finding a "specialist" that know which end is up. The latest in my reading is finding out more on APD and dyslexia ties. On a good note, he is at the right age to get tested for that now Which I am fairly certain he has, classic symptoms fit him to a tee. On a VERY...
yes, thank you SO much Violet!! excellent activities mmmm never thought of that Peony! might try cursive and see if its any easier on his brain.
baileysmommy, thank you for that link. I liked it very much so! DS has an auditory processing disorder so the dyslexia falls into line. That site was fantastic in finding a method of helping him. Other programs we've tested made him crazy - he's not a musical, kiddy kind of learner, so many are too juvenile. purplepaisleymama, thank you for the support. linda on the move, so what precisely is your dd dx? and what, pray tell, was your point? I mean it in the...
I just want to clarify a few things. Just because we unschool doesn't mean I am unaware or stuck on MY own desires as a parent/teacher to quote "decide if your views on education are serving your child well". We do this because it works for our children plain and simple. Now if he needs help in an area, we get it, just like the second kid excels at art - he gets help. I won't send him to a public school to get that help because I don't think that is the answer, if...
Thank you, thank you, thank you I've got a great list and programs to look at. We started using a cut out paper to cover the rest of the words and it seems to help so he doesn't get so flustered.
X-posted in unschooling... Wise mamas, I need support and help. I have a 9 year old who I'm pretty sure has a form of dyslexia. I've let him go at his own pace in what he needs to learn at what time but I'm worried that I may be making a mistake in not trying to help him learn the right way for his brain to grasp reading. Any suggestions or mamas who have dealt with dyslexia? My 7 year old is reading and grasped it right away, which does help me not feel like a...

another mama with a lo that had a reaction. guess what he has now at 9 years old? Pertussis. yay us... the cough is not nearly as bad as the reaction. I don't recall the age. It was last shot of dtp. He screamed the whole way home from doc office. Not screamed but shrill, piercing. That night he came down with a high fever. Nurse said it was "normal". He got very very sick and stopped nursing Second son had a reaction on his leg. We stopped vaxing...
Just to give insight here. My oldest son was given his whole round of vaxes, on schedule, etc. Had a reaction to the last dtp, hight fever, screaming, got very very sick after. He now has pertussis. Just last night the whoop started. I don't tell you this to scare you. I say it because just because they get all the vaccines doesn't mean immunity. The whole situation is ironic. I am angry. He was very sick for no reason as a little one. Pertussis isn't ...
