Rose Roget, if you have family in France, then the Lucien the pinguin series exist in paperback version (cheaper to buy& lighter to transport or send in a parcel), about 5 euros per book. some pages have more than one sentence...

when living in the US I was at a loss about what to get for my children I liked the series of books about "Lucien" le pinguin by Jean-Marc Mathis Editions Pocket jeunesse but odering them ended up being quite expensive...
