I was shocked to see you are already thinking of letter recognition with a 13mo old. Then I realized I have been following a Waldorf-ish approach which strongly follows delayed academics. Maybe you can get more info on this in a Waldorf group/forum. My DS is 4.5 & is just now asking to learn his letters so we will begin to learn now. So far the only time I have 'worked with letters' was if they were in a story or the alphabet song. I think most research shows that the...
My DS is 4.5 & DD is almost 3 . They go one day a week to a play based Waldorf inspired homeschool program at someones home for 4hrs. I feel delayed academics is important. Besides that I read. I use the Sonlight P3/4 books & instructors guide which are just amazing. Check out the book list. We also do lots of arts and crafts - mostly nature/seasonal inspired. Of course playing... including lots of outside time. DS will be 5 in Aug & I have decided he is ready for...
I just started reading this thread & that is exactly what I thought. That is low compared to ours. I just heard the other day on the radio the 'average' family of 4 spends $946 per month on food. They didnt say if that included eating out or not. So I would say you are doing quite well by that number. I came here to find some tips to cut our bill down (825 Aug, 665 Sept + about 250/mo DH spends at Costco). Good Luck!
If you have multiple floors in your home could you manage your kids if there was not one child related thing on the main floor (where kitchen is & you spend 70% of your time)?   We have 2 kids DS 4 & DD 2.5 (baby due in Feb). DH HATES having kid stuff in his main living space. He feels he cant have people over because its to messy. He wants everything either up in their rooms or in the basement (play room there). NOTHING at all on the main floor What we have now...
St Peters Hospital is where I was going to go. I would imagine Robert Wood Hosp. also does them. In my case the OBGYN has to send you there with a referral. Have you spoken to your OBGYN about having it done? I'm sure they have a place they like to send their patients to. This is not something that a regular OBGYN does, but a specialist in the field. Good Luck.
LMBO! so true! Both of my kids went through a period where they would be up for a few hours in the night...wanting to read, play, nurse, go downstairs, whatever. Frustrating. teething is a big part of this I feel. If you dont want to give tylenol all the time. the homeopathic Chamomilla (sp?)by Boiron is terrific. My 3y10mo still wakes 1 or 2x a night. My 25mo is usually up 2 or 3x to nurse. What is sleeping through the night? I usually get up once to use the potty...
Ugg. that is tough. I dont really know if I will be much help, but I will tell you what worked for us. We got rid of the crib. It was the best thing we ever did! I got the idea from reading a Montissori book on how to set up a childs area M style. They recommend no cribs to foster independence. When my son was 5mo we just put his crib mattress on the floor (with a rug next to it in case of roll off - which didnt happen until much later on). Anyway, I would nurse him to...
Thanks for the responses everyone. we actually go out almost everyday. we just do playdates 2 - 3 days a week. the other days are things like grocery shopping, errands, etc... Roubidoux, a birthday party from 1 - 9 would be perfect for us too. We can go out later as long as we are in the car early enough. If we were invited to a party at 12 or 1 that would mean we would be in the car to go there at a time that they wouldnt be tired yet & of course they are not gong to...
My sister & I are at odds over this. We have very different opinions so I thought I would run it by you guys to get some other opinions. My kids dont nap 25mo & 3y10m. They probably could use one (especially the little one) but the problem I have is when they do nap they are up until between 10pm & midnight. They then wake normal time so are very short on sleep & so is Mama. It always messes us up for about 2 days when they do nap & it is terrible. With out naps the...
Well, after looking into it more...I going to do it! Itslike a no brainer for me. I knew MDC was the place to come for insight. Chrisa, I can see how many offices wouldnt push for it. Forget about what is best for the patient & remember what fattens the coffers. I go in 2 wks to the Dr for the 1st time so we"ll see what they say. I also found a place 30min from me that does the test. Thanks again everyone!
