Especially for runnerduck: Time to advocate! Runnerduck may not have much spare time, just now! We need more breast milk banks! It is ideal if preterm babies can have breastmilk. Donor breast milk is a wonderful option. Perhaps the baby's health care provider can be persuaded to order donor milk from a milk bank? http://www.hmbana.org/index.php?mode=locations. Perhaps there are local family members/ members of a faith community (church. temple/mosque) who can donate?...
Dear motheringdotcommune! Thanx to everyone who rushed to support this mom. It is very important to consult with a lactation consultant when there is a health care challenge such as this. There is a huge variation in this. [Just as there is for grown-ups]. It sounds as if you'r doing a great job! He can digest much of his meal in 20 minutes. As long as he is happy for a bit after nursing, and gaining weight, he'll usually eat when he needs to. [Some babies are pretty distracted during the day by what is going on in the world around; but they make-up for this by nursing more when sleepy]. Good work! thumb wisecrone; IBCLC
Dear community: My Vietnamese friend has questions. She is being pushed to have her 6 year old son (with asthma) start on Ritalin. She has concerns about this. She also experiences challenges in advocating for her son; communications are more difficult because of her ESL. Also, she is not as familiar with the public schoold system as she would like. Advice/ support/ suggestions are welcome! Thanx. Seattle area.
Thank you for sharing your story! Humor is an amazing rebuttle! I believe good birth and attachment parenting has the potential to powerfully promote peace in our world. I notice a shift in focus; more and more families are seeking holistic/integrative information. Colleagues, family, and patients often ask me for help in finding holistic perspectives on pregnancy, birth, & post-birth. Often, they have waded through a huge amount of writings to find what they want/need....
2 years ago Seattle experienced our first quints. If it takes a village to raise one child, you can appreciate how many more people are needed to help 5! I hope some of you wonderful Mothering readers can suggest/ support this family?
