You are 100% correct. I checked and I spelled it correctly once and incorrectly seven times. I sent my editor a corrected version and hopefully he'll update the article on the site relatively quickly. Thank you so much for catching that!
Just checking in to say that I'm floored at the positive response/feedback this article is getting. Based on the comments sections of sites like Huff Post Parents I was a bit apprehensive about putting an article like that on a non-AP site, but so far it's generated no controversy. I'm wondering if it's because the Prague Revue is predominantly a lit/culture magazine and doesn't have a focus on parenting? Or maybe public opinion really is changing? (One can hope...)
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :-)
Hi :-) I haven't been active on Mothering very much recently as my daughters got older and started school. I write a monthly column, however, for a magazine of literature and cultural review, and my column this month is on my experiences with nursing in public, bf-ing toddlers, and America's cultural sexualization of breasts; I thought some of the lactivists here might find it interesting :-) I hope that it's ok to share it here?    Warning--article contains an image and...
How long can I go without a postpartum period before attributing the absence of menstruation to a cause other than breastfeeding? DD2 will be two next month and I haven't had a period since January 2010. I *did* have a few days of bleeding after getting a paragard (copper) IUD in late 2010, but since then, nothing. I tandem nursed for nine months, but DD1 weaned in July of 2011. DD2 is large for her age (30 lb), but she nurses less than DD1 did, eats a lot of other foods,...
Mama_ness: A friend of mine works for the US Forest Service in Bessemer, MI (but his kids go to public school). (Another friend works for the Forest Service @ their Ontonagon location, but she doesn't have kids.) I know of one MDC unschooling family in Gogebic county. (There are a lot of other homeschoolers here, but I think they're mostly using faith based curriculums?) I know a few other families over here with younger children who are considering homeschooling. No...
I'm considering applying to grad school @ NMU this fall, which would mean living in Marquette a few days a week (since I can't do a 6 hour round trip commute more than once per week). Does anyone have opinions/info on the daycare/preschool options available in Marquette?    DD1 will be 5 in October, but I'd like to keep her in pre-k another year, so I'm looking for all day/afternoon preschool programs for her. Headstart isn't an option for us and I'm hesitant to do...
The carrier covers are safe as long as they go over the outside of the car seat and don't add an additional layer between the baby and the harness. I didn't use one with my first when we lived in CA, but I did with my second in MI. I usually kept it unzipped in the car and only zipped it up when taking her from the car to a building. I had her wear a fleece snowsuit in the car, but our weather IS similar to Alaska and can get down to 20 below. (I live in the far north...
When I painted our kitchen a few months ago I used a zero VOC paint made by Benjamin Moore called Natura. To be honest, I didn't do any research about it being specifically "kid safe" since I just wanted something that I could buy (semi) locally that was low VOC. It was pretty easy to use and didn't really have the smell I associate with paint. I have a small area that I still need to paint and I'll be comfortable using this with the windows shut. Here's the website for...
