I also take timeline notes. Time sort of disappears during labor and birth, so I keep a timeline so that I can write a more detailed birth story. I haven't found that I spend a lot of time away from mom taking notes. She has to go to the bathroom and have intimate time with her partner and I use these moments to jot down quick info. The one birth I didn't take notes on, I was so lost as to the time anything happened or how long things lasted.
Well, they never asked with mine but that was because I told them no circumcision several times before we got to that point. I had it written in red on my file. With my first boy, I called my pediatrician ahead of time to discuss it. We talked about it for about an hour on the phone. He was my ped for years with my other 4. I had a weird birth experience with my first son (my 5th child). The midwife was unhappy with my insisting I was in labor when she didn't think I...
Where in Atlanta are you? I know a few ob/gyns who do VBACs in addition to the midwives listed above.
I start with, have you researched circumcision? Then I follow with there is a lot of information out there and a lot of reasons not to have it done. I kept my 3 sons intact and if you want more information about it I'd love to share some things with you. I also promote intactness online on message boards. I have swayed several people to leave their sons intact and have gotten thank you notes and phone calls and even gifts from parents thanking me for being stubborn...
I have a 6 year old, 4 year old and 2 year old intact boys and none of them have ever had a single problem. I also have a circ'ed dh who is restoring :)
Dh and I wanted 7 originally. I already had a child when we met and I wanted a large family. Then my 4th was traumatic due to preterm labor and 2 weeks in the NICU followed by a miscarriage and then my next pregnancy was very stressful due to having an amniotic band and feeling very disrespected and degraded during my delivery with a midwife I hadn't met prior to his birth. I thought after that we were done. Then when I had to pack up baby clothes I was so emotional and...
I just attended a birth earlier this year and the first time the mom went she was 5cm and she was there all night with no progress so the midwives sent her home. She came back a week later and had her baby then. The staff and the midwives were awesome. We barely noticed they were there. They did intermittent monitoring and although they say every 20 minutes they weren't in there nearly that often. Especially if we were walking around or in the middle of coping.
I'm a birth doula working toward certification. I have a new client with little c isoimmunization. I'm having a really hard time finding coherent information about it. There's plenty of info about d isoimmunization and everything points to treatment and monitoring of both being similar, but the specific information about the little c is often contradictory. I've read several different medical journals, talked to a high risk specialist and everyone seems to have different...
If I'm going to be with a client at a hospital I haven't attended before, I go in sometime during the prenatal period and meet the admissions staff and ask for a short tour. I try to ask intelligent questions about their practices and routines such as admission procedures, triage policies, location of snacks and beverages for the patient, location of lights, etc. I've found that most of the time the nurses and staff are very accommodating and you can learn a lot that will...
Well, I was one told by my ob with my VBAC to stay home as long as possible and try to come in pushing. We discussed the risks of uterine rupture and the signs. He agreed that the risks were miniscule. He said that because I was informed and knew the risks he was willing to attend my VBAC but that the hospital was not VBAC friendly so rather than my having to deal with the hostility and fighting with the hospital staff which wasn't conducive to an easy labor to stay home...
