Hey everyone! I'm finally making the leap from queer conceptions. Here's a bit of an intro: My wife and I recently got our bfp after a home IUI. I'm 7 weeks on Tuesday and our EDD is 8/13/13. This was our first cycle trying after a three year break and I'm still in shock that it worked. I'm a doula, cbe and lactation specialist working toward LC exam next summer as well as a part-time project coordinator for a bfing project -- so the perinatal period is my life and...
These are pretty good directions: http://theivp.com/ladybusiness/?p=12   I also PM's you with some specifics about what we did for our recent (BFP!) cycle.
I agree that digitals are more sensitive. I used internet cheapie strips -- which would give me and fade in -- and digital opks.  I always got a smilie face before I got a strong positive IC and would get multiple positives with the digital each month. After a couple months of using both in conjunction with charting (temp, cm, etc) I could tell when I was going to ovulate based on the strength of the opk the previous months information that I my temp rises the morning...
merstone - Welcome! I'm also in the PNW. We do home IUIs with frozen sperm and I totally get the timing being the most frustrating part! mrsandmrs - CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Darcy - Sounds like you got in just in time. Best wishes on the tww!   Hopefully you won't need this info, but just FYI, some banks (including CCB, which is ours) will accept a return shipment with a vial to re-store. They often won't make any guarantees about it or buy it back, but you can have them store it for you for another cycle. Also, some fertility clinics will do short term storage - a cycle or two - for patients or sometimes even for non-patients for a...
scorpio - yay for insems and it looks like good timing for fresh! PDXmother - welcome! We're in the PNW too and also used CCB and I had low progesterone (based on symptoms not bloodwork). I temped which gave me a better sense of O from opk surge. Good luck with the timing -- that's the hardest part! We also used a headlight for our insem! mrsandmrs - Yay for a great plan and a great insemination numbers! scorpio, M&M, sphinxy, friederick, san diego and...
scorpioma - how are you doing? sending you calm thoughts! samy - yay for great timing and best wishes for the two! sphinxy - sending you appropriately timed ovulatory thoughts. fille - Thinking of you! Good group question: We've talked with people about having kids "someday" or "it's in the five year plan" for years, but didn't tell anyone in real life, other than healthcare related people, we were actively trying. (We'll the first time round in '09, I told a...
Darcy - Sorry you're out. Glad you're planning for December!   Sphinxy - That's crazy cool about the potential double ovulation! I've heard that's how some straight women end up with fraternal twins.   scorpioma - Thanks for checking in (and stalking my chart). It probably looks more promising than it really is because of the progesterone supplementation I'm doing. It makes me feel all sorts of "symptoms" too, so I'm not relying on the temps or physical signs,...
nosreves - yep, vaginally. Thankfully it's just the slight headache and backache/cramps today and I have a stock of panty liners (disposables just in case the discharge is a no-no with my cloth). I'm aware that one embie can make multiple babies, but the risk is much, much lower than with injects. Since I have a family history of multiples and know what it takes (professionally) especially in the first years, our plans are based on a risk-reduction. darcy - i'll be...
nosreves - thanks for coming and sharing that advice. I'm prepared for my temps to be higher than normal and maybe "look like pg temps." I may stop temping, for the next week, but I wanted to temp today at least to make sure my temp went back up. Actually the high temps/low temps don't stress me out unreasonably, and I'd like to see that these expensive little suckers are doing their jobs (especially since I'm on the lowest dose). Did you do progesterone supplementation?...
