Honestly why shouldn't a girl be "girly" if thats what she leans to? I think there is no intrinsic value in "gender neutral". The real objective should be to let every individual child express themselves freely. A parent should just be ok with, and supportive of, a childs choice whether that leans towards or against the gender (or any other) stereotype. As long as its the child's free choice, as long as they have other options to choose or reject, then "pink" is OK for a...
They play together, they tidy up together. Every time. Its fair and logical. DS actually got mad once with one friend who said it wasn't his house so he shouldn't do it. I intervened and explained to the friend that those were our house rules. When a parent has been present it has always been sort of obvious, in that they suggest it "son its time to go, have you picked up yet?"  or they reinforce my prompt.
What I got from OP's original post was that she took an episode she witnessed and widened the scope of discussion. The wealth-or-not-wealth is rather irrelevant to the discussion. Do children have opportunities to socialise in adult contextts, and do they know how to do so? Is there a behaviour scale (like there might be a dress scale) that distinguishes what you and/or your children do in your "Date-night-worthy-nice-pants" place with respect to your...
Manners are always necessary, IMO, like decent clean clothing. Etiquette is not vital, but may be appropriate based on context, like say your church outfit (or red carpet gown lol). I think attitudes to etiquette are probably similar to one's general philosophy on how important or useful it is to be able to "fit in" in the surrounding environment, and how much of your self confidence depends on your being in tone or inversely, a rebel.   Personally, I trend...
8 1/2  yr old boy Get food for themselves. Use stove or toaster?   He will get cold snacks for himself, can use knives (slice bread or fruit etc). We don't have a toaster or microwave. I don't let him use the stove - the stove top is about shoulder level to him, not safe.   Put themselves to bed?   No way. He needs to be directed step by step, and then when finally under the covers its cuddles for 10-20 mins from both DH & I. He loves his bedtime...
ummm.... there's a funny word at the end of my previous post that doesn't show when I try to edit it....
I don't like the idea of a mattress on floor because its too close to the dust. And no circulation underneath it. And what do you do with the bedding, tuck it under, directly onto the floor? Must be uncomfortable to make it up in morning unless you do it kneeling. Not to mention if you have any back problems or are PG pretty difficult to get into and out of.  And CO2 is heavier than air and will stagnate around me as I sleep low on the floor (OK, maybe this last one is...
How small is small? I had one in our previous 800 sq ft appartment. All ceramic tile floors. Sweeping is OK but I wouldn't happily do without a weekly throrough clean with a vacuum. The vacuum gets floors cleaner, and you notice the difference if you mop after vacuming or after sweeping. And think not only nooks & corners, but rugs, sofas, matresses, curtains. Think random spills, the occasion broken glass. I have just an ordinary Bosch model but it has all the...
I find menu planning has helped hugely in reducing wasted food for us. We also grocery shop just once a week, and I plan the weeks meals based on what we like to eat and how much preparation time I will have day by day, and then draw up a shopping list from the plan. So that means no spur of the moment purchases, which does add to some savings, and little or no waste at all because I know exactly what I am going to use through the week. I sometimes switch meals around...
Just as a side note, in this country feral cats are protected by law. You cannot remove feral cats from any territory where they choose to establish themselves. Municipalities are supposed to sterilize them and then release them back to where they were found.
