No, I didn't mean that at all. Yes, we are at/under the 33% but that's because we held out for a really cheap house when we were ready to buy and because we waited until almost 30 before we felt ready.    Just out of curiosity, what are prices like where you're looking? Low end of the market here is $100,000 to $125,000, mid range would be up to $175,000. Our fixer upper was way less than $100,000 but once you add in all the reno costs it's getting there.    It's...
A couple things I find helpful:   Fruits and veggies are on sale now. Stock up for the winter. I choose to freeze the majority because it's easier for me.    Buying a half cow etc is a good idea. Shop around to make sure you're getting the best deal.    Shop weekly sales. Every store will have items that go on sale to get people in. There's a balance. You want to shop often enough to take advantages of those sales, BUT you have to make sure you're not tossing...
I remember back when we were obsessing about buying a house. It was around the time the SHTF (2008-2009). I would read financial blogs, run numbers, and drool over MLS.ca every day. Our living situation was awful at the time and buying a house would solve everything. Part of me wanted to buy the first house I saw but I was so scared. (It was scary back then!)  We looked intensively for 8 months before finding a house that was right for us. Even at that point, it was a...
I'm not a fan of carpet. I feel like it would be even more toxic than the black weed barrier.    I was feeling awful, like 'I should be more on top of things! How can I not keep up with a few weeds?!' But I'm not dealing with a few weeds here. If I started a garden in our nice front lawn (not possible) or in the neighbours backyard (also not possible ;) ) I wouldn't have this much of a problem. I planted in the only space available which USED to be a lawn but nature...
Yes to Stormbride's post. It pretty much works that way here (in Qc) too. One thing I wanted to point out, yes, it can take time to make an appt with a dr and then another wait to be referred to a specialist, but if you're really having problems, are in pain etc, you can go through the emergency room at the hospital and see a specialist from there.
I think it depends a lot on what the area looks like. Are the other houses close together and close to the road? If your house is the only one that close it would feel so out there and unprotected. Personally I would prefer having a buffer zone.
This is my garden almost a month ago. I haven't posted any pics since because it's awful. We're also doing a lot of work on our house so sadly, the weeds have had a merry party while I've been busy.    I have some leaves but not enough to last all summer long. I don't have grass (no way of bagging it and I'm not going to rake it up-if it's even possible...). Cardboard is hard to find due to everyone moving between May-July. (College town + everyone moves July 1st in...
I watched the first season! Glad to hear it got picked up for another. :)
How I Met Your Mother!!!! One of my favourite half hour shows. :)   Hour long: True Blood Big Love Six Feet Under Game of Thrones Also like Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe though never really got into SG1 Veronica Mars (recently discovered :)) Falling Skies   I believe all these shows were able to run their term, end ok when cancelled or still on going. I HATE HATE HATE when shows are canceled with mysteries still left to solve (cancelling of...
I got serious about tracking food (and moving my body!) in August and lost 10lbs!    I don't expect to lose as much this month as most of it happened the first week.  Goals for September: lose 5lbs and got out walking/"jogging" 2-3 times each week.
