Hi Katybear, I'm a librarian mom, and I love it. My son had his library card before his little bellybutton skin fell off. I'm in public libraries, so my experience will be a little different than that of a school library media specialist. My schedule at work is flexible, so I've been able to schedule my hours to allow me maximum time with my DS, more so when he was little. Being involved in the library has had a positive effect on my parenting. It's made...

Thanks, Kimmysue2. Tea Tree Oil sounds like a good idea. (Don't worry abt the cat eating the bleached rodent. It won't be lying around all bleach-y. I'd spray it just prior to picking it up and putting it in the trash.)
My cats are pretty good hunters, and every few days, I open the back door to find a dead mouse or rat or, sometimes, a pigeon, they've brought us. I clean up the little carcasses, and I'm all freaked out about whatever germs they might have. (West Nile? Hanta?) A friend shared an idea that makes me feel much better. She suggests having a spray bottle with a bleach solution and spraying the dead animal, really wetting it down, before picking anything up. I...
In More More More Said the Baby, how do you know Little Bird and her mom are Hispanic? I thought they were Asian! (I think this ambiguity is a strength of Williams' illustrations. Her characters' ethnicity is in the eye of the beholder. They can be whoever you perceive them to be...) Some more suggestions... Hi Idsmama, Most of the issues you bring up have been on my mind perpetually since my DS was born, a little over 2 years ago. I still struggle with them, but here are some things that have helped. Child care exchange. I teamed up with another artist mama who had a child close to DS's age. She takes both kids one morning a week while I work, and and I take both kids one morning while she works. It is a nice arrangement. It doesn't cost any money. I am...
Thanks, mamas! I got a bottle of a natural stain and odor remover (can't remember the brand name right now...) at the health food store. It has enzymes. I doused the couch and set the cushions outside to dry. I have high hopes for odor-free furniture by Memorial Day.
My cat peed on my couch. Everything was soaked: cushions, throw pillows, frame. It's a sofabed, so the sofabed mattress is soaked, too. Very stinky. I sprayed it all with Febreze -- an old sample bottle we've had in the closet for years. Well, I remembered hearing that when Febreze came out, its original formula was toxic to pets. Is this true? If it is, what should I do now that I already sprayed it all over everything? I guess I'll go out and get...
Hugs to you, Star Jewel. I'm sorry to hear you're being treated so unfairly! And I'm sorry you had to be away from your children for three days! Is there a women's resource center or women's shelter or YWCA or something like that in your area? They may have some good advice for you about protecting your children and your rights. They may also recommend a good and affordable lawer. You may also want to contact your area's bar association. They may be able to...
