I'm having the same thought greenmulberry. We have a 45 min drive to the birth center from our house. While I've been sort of thinking "a home birth wouldn't have been all that different after all", I was thinking of a planned, attended home birth--not Sweet Husband and the "emergency delivery" chapter of "What to Expect...." I've been whispering to the small fella "You can either come today, or make yourself comfortable until Thursday, but no in-between!"

I was actually surprised at how little problem we had finding a daycare that would be ok with cloth diapers. The only stipulation was that we had to bring some sort of sealable pail to put the diapers in--not a problem at all. I expected it to be a fight, but (at least in our community, which is a little on the hippie-liberal side) we had no resistance at all. Moral of the story? Don't be afraid to ask, you might be surprised!

I'm planning to give birth at a free standing birth center. They have gowns available, but suggest you will probably be more comfortable bringing your own clothing. They have a very nice tub, so I'm thinking that perhaps I'll be in and out of that--which would suggest maybe just a camisole or a sports bra for the actual giving birth part. Or maybe a gown to toss on when I get out of the tub? But will I really be up for changing ensembles mid-labor? I know there...

So, after months of procrastinating, I finally set up appointments to tour daycares. I wouldn't want to quit my job--even if it was an option, which it's not. I love what I do, and, besides, I've seen so many kids that do so well in daycare. From observing cousins and nieces it seems like they have a lot of fun, make friends, and even are more verbal than kids I see that have stayed home with a parent. (Generalization based on a very small sample of my own...

I need a "pat" answer for when people ask me why I've chosen not to have my baby at a birthing center instead of the hospital. I don't know if it's the fact that I'm exhausted and having trouble making concise words, or what, but I'm having the darndest time with it. These are nice, genuinely curious people who are asking. But it's just that a) there are a lot of reasons and b) I don't want to answer in a way that implies that my choice is the absolute right one for...
