Update: my baby jst turned 3 months, she is not big (less than 12 pounds) but has a strong neck. I just tried the ergo without the insert and it's fine. The ergo manual says 4-5 but i think 3 months or maybe a bit before is fine if you have a good neck control.
Very happy to come back to the ergo, the bjorn is only good for the first weeks
I love the ergo for the older babies starting 4-5 months. I have the infant insert but don't like it for the reasons stated before (way too hot for a summer baby and difficult to see how the baby is doing in there).
I used an old snugli for the first month and am now using the baby bjorn for the hot summer months. A sling is also a good option for those first months.
My hb was with Cara i don't think there are a lot of hb midwives out here. Did you met her back up Myriam? I heard good things about her
In the meantime several people told me the Brooklyn birthing center changed a lot in the last 2-3 years, apparently not in a good way
I had a great home birth two months ago. Most of the items in my birth kit were donated by other mothers and freecyclers so i would love to do the same and give the unused items to another hb mama or a midwife.
I have latex gloves (two full boxes!), mesh underwear, peri bottle, shower curtain and other items like that.
I gave birth at the brooklyn birthing center in 2010 and had a great experience.it is the only Free standing birthing center in all New York city.
My second baby was a homebirth and it was great too but very to deal with the insurance company
sorry for the late reply
the AG office is very helpful but in my case it did not work since i found out my plan is sitused in DC not in NY
see this other thread for details
Good luck, cigna was really bad with me but it all depend on your plan
Found a few great ideas on this thread.
We prepared a big box with a lot of options for our 3yo. The birth went very well and quick so we did not use everything but it was good to be ready for any situation.
Labor started during the night and DS woke up and wanted to be there and help. We had a little flashlight in the box that was a big success. It was even helpful for the midwife Since i did not want to much light in the room.
We also used the colorings books...
