That article was a bit humourous, very real and a bit sad. I had a definate love/hate relationship with my breast pump. With my first child, I pumped away in an office conference room (and occassional bathroom) and hauled my pump back and forth on the my daily train commute. Ugh! Then we would nurse all night to catch up on mama/kid time. I was thrilled to stay home and nurse my second child without the assistance of that darn pump. Grrr.
My son did PM kindergarten and I LOVED it. Very relaxed, no rushing, etc. My daughter did PM preschool last year and full day kindergarten this year (1/2 day is no longer an option at our school). I vote for afternoons!
Give him time. Time is the most important thing. School is hard for little boys - it goes against their nature. My son was diagnosed with ADD, but he is 9 years old. He was just diagnosed last year, but he is managing the school thing okay. His teachers and school staff are good - homework is our challenge. He still needs time to settle down and he needs alot of breaks.
Honestly, I don't have a daily yoga practice. I do what I can. I teach twice a week and I do yoga at home in little bits and pieces. My kids are 5 and 9 and I work full time. I have re-defined what a yoga practice means. It may be 3 series of sun salutations or some wiggling around on the floor with a kid. It may be with the tv on or it might be mama going into another room to be alone for 5 minutes. It definately means breathing... The best time for me at...
Yoga may not be your thing. Are you doing tapes? I would definately suggest a more vigorous video. Basic yoga videos can be super slow and boring. Have you tried a yoga class at a yoga studio. The experience of being in a room with other people is key to letting yourself get into the poses and work with the breath. Also, trying different styles is key. Ashtanga or Vinyasa flow classes might be good for you. The benefit of yoga are physical, energetic and...
I have a degree in History (oh, so useful ) and I worked for 11 years for a federal agency doing community development work. Now I work in fundraising for a girls Catholic high school as the Grants and Communications Coordinator in the Development office. What job do you WANT? Maybe focus on your career goals and determine the best fit in terms of education/training. Education is expensive - I think I assumed that I was going to graduate school, but I left an Urban...
I have been teaching yoga, part time, since 1999. I have taught between 1-7 classes a week since then and right now I teach 2 classes a week and also work full-time doing fundraising for a private high school. Q - How do you find a good school? A- I did the 200 hour teacher training at the Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago. It was awesome. There are alot of programs in Chicago now, but alot less back in 1998. Q- Do you take the 200 hr courses first or can you...
Sending good vibes your way...
I'm okay sharing with close friends. Knowledge is power and I wish our culture was more open about financial issues. I don't think women would tolerate being paid so much less than men if the truth was known.
We do playdates on Friday afternoon or a weekend, occassionally. I stay for playdates with my 5 year old, but my 9 year old will have a friend over or go hang out at a friend's house for a few hours on the weekend sometimes.
