Thank you for reminding me why I started avoiding this entire site. The Eugenics discussion from a few weeks ago and this one has pretty much sealed the deal. My life truly is richer when I avoid such ridiculous judgmental people.
When folks come to visit us I plan the meals. I will either plan what to cook or when we go out to eat and usually where we're going. Otherwise we'll be sitting around twiddling our thumbs until midnight. When we go and visit family I usually leave it to them but if it's running late and my kids are hungry I will make them something to eat, they will not be made to wait for dinner and get crabby because the others can't get their act together in a reasonable amount of...
But this isn't necessarily a factory job. My brother is currently working at a nuclear plant because he's a steamfitter and they needed work done on their pipes. It's in his area of expertise it just happens that this time it's at the nuclear plant (he works all different places).
Job A. BTDT with the crazy long commute (an hour on a really good day, usually longer) and would not be interested in going back to that, especially with kids. We moved from the hour plus commute to an area where the commute is under 10 minutes and it is heaven. So much more time together as a family. If there's an emergency he's home right away. Quality of life really went up for us.
I saw this in a magazine and thought about this thread and thought some of you may be interested. A documentary that will air on PBS around about Earth Day about one vegetarian woman's journey of marrying a hunter/commercial fisherman and moving to Alaska and wanting to eat locally.
I know a few of you have heard of and participate in Community Supported Agriculture. I also know that there are some meat, eggs, dairy CSA's that are getting up off the ground. I just read about CSF which is way cool! Right now, a lot of them seem to be concentrated on the East Coast but there's one on CA's Central Coast and one in Canada.
Reminds me of when we lived in Santa Barbara...
