Some of my clients use a mixture of Neosporin ointment and 1 percent or 0.5 percent hydrocortisone ointment. Use a paper thin layer on the nipple and it will reduce inflammation prevent infection and hasten healing. Most of this ointment will absorb or you can use a mursing pad to protect your bra. Use the ointment after esch feeding j until it is healed. It should not be a problem for the baby at all.
Has he asked for anything? I usually go on what my kids like to do and may ask for.   I know we bought our now 14 year old an off brand MP3 player a few years ago and it was difficult to use, and she rarely used it. She saved up for an iPod and now uses it all the time. IMO, the iPod beats the pants off of all other MP3 players. I have a Nano iPod myself and I wouldn't go with anything other than that. That and a few iTunes gift cards may be nice. (I have taught my...
No problem at all. I'm always happy to help.   Good luck on your court case. My thoughts will be with you.
I would stay away from a fast flow nipple, they are notorious for causing nipple confusion! A sippy cup is certainly appropriate. After my oldest baby got nipple confusion shortly after birth and I got rid of ALL the bottles I never had a bottle in the house again and none of my children after her ever took a bottle. They were all on sippy cups at meal time. Even before they were eating solid food, they could have a little filtered water in their cup and sit with the...
I'm sorry you have to wait over the holidays to see the specialist. It's a few weeks, and I think if he thought absolute time was of the essence, he would have squeezed you in, wouldn't he? I know you're scared. My guess is it's a galactocelle, but of course, I can't say without seeing you and without a fine needle aspiration. I don't know why some families are so close mouthed about cancer and refuse to talk about it. My dad's family was like this. My great uncle died of...
No, you're not the only person who "has that problem." I find myself sucked in, too, despite really being sick of it. All I want is the right to NOT vax if that is what I choose for my children. And not be hassled by the school, and not be considered to have "germy" children by some, and just have the right the US Constitution gives me to make my own choices. That's all.
You may be right. The original Mothering Magazine was strongly anti-vax, Maybe it's futile to debate the issue. I don't care if other people vax (although I worry about their children, it isn';t MY business)  Perhaps some who only come to MDC to look for a fight wouldn't find a place to do that here. It's an idea, Kathy. I could happily live with that idea. I think there are a few people we'd never hear from again if the "debate" board was eliminated.
I said exactly what I mean. Some people come here only to fight, never mention their own children, never participate in other discussions. Why do this? I don't agree with certain political ideas, but I don't seek out websites dedicated to what I don't agree with and go over there and fight with people. No, Mothering hosts debate boards, that's fine. I just see no reason to ONLY come here for that. You can if you like, but. I stated my opinion. I'm entitled to that. It...
Ouch! In what situation did your LO bite? That will determine the solution. No, a nipple shield is not the solution for biting, not at all. It won't help and is an intervention that is too drastic for something transitory like biting.   If she bit when she was falling asleep: some babies will start to slide off the breast when they fall asleep, and then CHOMP down when they get to the little ball of tissue at the end of the nipple. Ow! Keep an eye on the baby, and...
You certainly can  get all the nutrition you need from food during breastfeeding. Prenatal vitamins are NOT intended to be taken during lactation, as lactation is not a high stress nor draining body state. Pregnancy IS both of these. Pregnancy and lactation have virtually nothing in common, in terms of what your body needs, what hormones are being excreted, caloric requirements and how your body is working. (The way the female human body was designed, lactation is actually...
