If I know something's on its way out and can't be fixed, I start researching and stay informed until it needs to be replaced so I don't have to make a decision under pressure. But I don't replace it until I have to.

Another vote for the Panasonic Lumix series. They're really a good value for the number of features and have great lenses.
Would the other family members be willing to finance your purchase of the home? If you're willing to pay a decent rate, it's better than they'd get sticking their shares in the bank right now.

If you're using a washing machine, you won't have puddles or even drips. The spin cycle gets that kind of water out. And you'd have to have a lot of water pooling for it to get through your floor and sub-floor and into your ceiling.
I try not to use bags, but if somebody gives me something in a bag, it gets reused. Some things (like cheese) get wrapped in wax paper before they go in the bags to make the bags easier to clean and reduce contact with our food.
