My second was with a birth tub, the two after I didn't bother. I realized that the primary purpose of the tub for me was to shield me from others' eyes and touch, it didn't help with the pain, and setting up and getting in and out of it and keeping it warm was a hassle. With my next two I just dealt with the privacy issues in a different way.
I used hardly anything in my kit! Ended up being a waste of money. I assembled my own the next time, and it got more and more simple with each birth...   For my last I had:   various simple foods I like to keep my energy up drinking water at hand lots and lots of recently laundered towels and blankets and cloths and diapers sitting nearby, more than you think you'll need a waterproof pad (mine is about 3'x3' and has a soft cotton side, got it at a medical...
I'm not sure exactly what you're describing, because you say both that your body was pushing all on its own but also that you were pushing with all your might. I guess the obvious thing is just stay with the first part of that, don't add anything extra. But also, maybe you might want to try birthing on dry land. People say that water helps the tissues soften, and certainly the heat helps, but I wonder if 1) the tissues can become waterlogged and this interferes with the...
s_c, did it say "planned"? Or just nothing? If the first, either the "un" was accidentally left off or someone wanted to intentionally mark it as planned. Because the stories are not labeled unless not planned or there is a transfer or unusual circumstance. Not sure what you're asking about the accessibility -- anyone can see it and change it (a record is kept of the changes made I believe.)   I think we should go back to a thread for the roll call like we had in the...
I wish people would grow up. I wish people wouldn't use logical fallacies in their arguments. I wish people would understand basic UC concepts before they come here. (I've just about filled out my UC bingo card with this thread.) It's so tiresome. I go through a thread like this and think about responding individually to each objection and then I think, what's the point? For the naysayers it all boils down to this: the only acceptable scenario is birth with a...
No, I have no idea. The wiki is hard to find. In fact, the only way I was able to get to it was through this thread -- I am not finding a link on the wiki page anywhere. Apparently I'm not the only one, as it's been updated only once in the last six months.
Welcome to MDC. :)
This is off-topic, but I just don't want anyone who is interested in architecture but not much of math person to think that they have to have engineering-level skills in order to do design! It's true that most schools require higher-level math classes, but that is a function of the school bureaucracy rather than what is actually used in practice. I got my degree in architecture and never needed anything beyond basic geometry and conversions. And for those not wanting to...
I'd make a last ditch effort to talk to the mother and father. Maybe they are just so stunned by depression that they can't think straight, maybe the father senses something is wrong but is second-guessing himself because no one is saying anything. Because surely if something was wrong, someone would say something??? At the very least, you could yourself get a feel for what's going on.   Does your friend know who the pediatrician is? He needs to know why this baby...
Good that they're outting themselves, just have to hope that these women don't just automatically accept that they need to go to a specialist.   I've been thinking about health care and fat people in general -- the fact that they're less likely to be involved with things that promote health in the first place because there's such a stigma. Especially with alternative care, it seems to me. So many of these "alternative" practitioners are people who are conventionally...
