Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions but I have to live with some limitations; 1) I live on a 3rd floor apartment with no car so carrying lots of laundry out is not an option with a 19 month old on my hip (being carried down very, very steep Dutch stairs). 2) Our regular fridge/freezer is broken (and has been for months - along with half the other electrical applicances in the place, including the dryer) and we are managing with a tiny one. The most I could...
When I was 8 months pregnant I took antibiotics for a bladder infection. I am now convinced that it caused the problems that my son is having with hypomineralisation of his teeth - the enamel never developed correctly. When the expert said that this enamel forms from the 8 month of pregnancy, my suspicions were made even stronger. However, that said, the expert also said that the bladder infection itself could have caused the development issues. So, I would say, if...
We currently live in an old apartment that is plagued with many beasts - one being moths. These are both the kitchen and clothes type. In about 1 month we are moving to a brand new house (can't wait..!) and I want to make sure that I do not import these moths to the new place. The kitchen ones I am not concerned about as I probably won't be taking any open food stuff from here. The clothes ones are another matter. My MIL said that I need to wash every piece of...
I am also piping in to say that you just need to hang in another couple of months. From 17 months, of his own doing, DS starting behaving differently at night (and since 3 months old he has been a terrible sleeper). He no longer fell asleep at the boob and was happy for DP to walk him to sleep after he was done nursing. His stretches of sleep also started to gradually increase. More and more he was staying down 3-4 hours at a time. Given these cues we have been...
Another mother with hypothyroid issues. I was diagnosed 7 years ago after suffering from extreme exhaustion and despression. There was no significant weight gain (except a little puffiness/water retention around the face) but it was the first thing I checked before things became too severe as most of the women in my family have it. My maternal grandmother suffered for most of her life and was only diagnosed shortly before her death (partly caused by the long-term...
A very depressed mother of an 18 month old here. DS has lost more than half of one incisor and the other is quickly chipping away from the corner as well. We finally got to see a specialist pediatric professor of dentistry last week. He took one look and said that there is nothing that can be done to prevent the damage worsening - apparantly there is no plaque or decay. DS's teeth are breaking away because they never formed correctly in the first place -...
I must say that I have never had luck with FuzziBunz. Even with 2 inserts I am lucky if it lasts 1.5 hours before leaking. Then again, my DS may be an exceptionally heavy wetter. I first tried CD when he was 3 months and was fortunate to have a sister with a huge number of different diapers for me to experiment with. But even with her expertise we could find nothing that would not leak - even within a couple of hours. When I retried at about 11 months (in the hope...
I really don't think it would work in our house. If I didn't cook, do the dishes, clean up around the house and do the laundry it just wouldn't get done. My DP has no problem with living in filth and getting take-out every night. When I went away recently for 2 weeks I returned to find the bath full of dirty dishes - apparantly they no longer fit in the sink!!!
Another mother battling caries in a 17 month old joining in here . Thanks for all the invaluable information. I now need to investigate any possible source of raw milk and butter oil in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It may be a challenge! I will also spend some time examining the 2 links provided regarding levels of pollution and the effect on fish oils. But until I get there can anyone relieve my worries about taking CLO, at least from certain geographical sources? ...
Thanks Moneca, I had actually skimmed that thread but missed the 2 posts regarding the toxicity levels in fish. I will add any further questions there.
