Hello, My DD is now 9 and is still attached. We spent money on several types of classes (swim, etc.), when she was little, and she always ended up on my lap so we stopped taking her. I kept thinking she needed to be less attached, but I think I was wrong. My husband and I think we are just as attached to her as she is to us. She is homeschooled. She now takes ballet, tap, etc. six hours per week and two hours of theatre, but my DH or I are usually there. We take...
Sending you good thoughts. Ruth (age 45) and Maya (age 9)
I am soo sorry about your loss. You have every right to feel sad and grieve and cry in front of as many people as you want to. Nobody should tell you you shouldn't be sad. It looks like you are sad about many things, including never being pregnant again or never giving birth again. But, there is a way to have 11 or 13 or whatever number of children in your home without giving birth. There is no need to grieve for that. In my state, there are 1,700 children...
Very wise words. I tell my daughter, "If you can't, you can't. And, that is OK. I can't do everything I try to do. You will know when you are ready to do something and when you are not. Trust your body. You decide when you are ready to do it." This is for when I know she can't do something hard. She is reading this with me and she says she tells people, "Say you can do it and you will."
See today's New York Times article at http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/06/in...pe/06brit.html. Here is an excerpt. The House of Lords Restrains the Hand That Hits the Child By ALAN COWELL Published: July 6, 2004 LONDON, July 5 - The House of Lords ... resolved Monday to limit, but not forbid, the right of parents to punish their children by slapping or spanking them, changing a 144-year-old law that gave parents the right to hit children as "reasonable...

A waitress at the Olive Garden in Arlington once asked me if I wanted a napkin to "cover up." I said, "cover up what?" and she walked away and refused to serve us. I complained to the manager, but didn't start a boycott or a nurse-in or a protest because I was a fairly stressed out ... fairly uninformed ... fairly tired ... relatively new mom. I knew I could complain and I did, but I didn't know about the breastfeeding law (AND I AM A LAWYER!). The manager also was VERY...
I have been thinking about this politeness thing. Did you see the move Hero (Dustin Hoffman, I think)? Dustin Hoffman is a petty thief but he sees a plane crash and he goes to rescue all these people and then goes home. Nobody knows who this Hero is, but then this cute guy who had given Dustin Hoffman a ride after he rescues people and who kept Dustin Hoffman's shoe accidentally comes forward with the shoe and says I am the Hero. He says all the right things and is...
I've always told my now 6-year-old that she can nurse until she is 99 years old. ... But mommy, you'll be dead if you plan to live to only 100. Oh, then I plan to live to be 136 years old. Seriously, she is six and still nurses for a few seconds every once in a while. And, she proudly shows us "look ... milk" and there is really milk. I heard that some indigenous people in this continent nursed their teenagers!
