Of course it's not. And there is no stopping teachers (at least at the elementary level) from incorporating more fiction into their day and children from self-selecting fiction during free reading time and from the school library.
Our state adopted new standards in ALL curriculum areas, not just literacy and math. Every teacher in the district is juggling new standards. I know for sure that my second grader isn't reading 70% nonfiction material. Not even close....
Eh, I don't see a big deal. Let her go for a pony ride then call it a day.
Many two-year-olds are able to play independently for short, or long, periods of time.
A four-year-old's toys would mostly be inappropriate for a baby. I would allow the time, and space, for each child to play with age-appropriate toys.
