I live clear across the country from my family. They took my grandfather off of life support today, and he died about 40 minutes later. He had a stroke on the 6th, and then another one on Sunday morning.
My family has asked I not attend the funeral as, in their words, "funerals are a place for mourning, not family tensions." My family doesn't like me all that much, to say the least.
I will respect their wishes, but it feels so wrong not to be allowed to say goodbye.
