My guess is that there is so much variation from hospital to hospital both now and 30 years ago, that it's really impossible to compare. Your situation sounds kind of extreme to me-- strapped to the bed?! I had a hospital birth earlier...
I'm echoing all the great replies here-- see an RE. I would tell anybody who's having a hard time concieving to see a specialist sooner rather than later; I waited longer than I should have. Finding out what's covered shouldn't be too...
Ditto. I've done the same thing-- once you bring it back up to a boil, it ought to be just fine. It's an awful feeling, though, to realize that it's still out, isn't it!
