Hello! Just saw this thread and wanted to say hi!
I just found Unity a couple of weeks ago and went to the past 2 services and I am very happy. I was just wondering if there are any others on this board that attend Unity?
My ds3 is going into K this year! He actually starts on Thursday! We are trying our hand at K12. Im pretty nervous! I hope it goes well!
Has anyone here used both?   I have 3 sons  (4, 11, 13) I am thinking of enrolling in a VA for this upcoming school year. I have already tried K12, and pulled my oldest two out after a month. Mostly because my oldest struggled alot (the math was very hard for him) and some of it seemed pretty advanced for him. My 11 yr old liked most of it, but then we started having problems with the math also, so I just pulled him out because I wanted to try going independent. Now...
Does anyone here use or have used Connections Academy? How do you like it? I read they do placement tests - do they actually place your child according to where they are at, or just put them in grade level subjects? How is the curric? How is the teacher support?
Im looking for resources to help teach my children about spirituality. I am Pagan, my dh probably leans more towards that than anything else, but isn't religious. We have just started going to a Unitarian Universalist church (literally a couple of times). I want to teach my children about the Wheel of the Year, and other Pagan beliefs. I am also interested in teaching them about just being a good person - I do like and agree with some of the Christian values and think...
thanks for this. these are great ideas. i feel like i am a slave to the curric and i am tired of doing ps at home. i honestly think every day we are going through the motions and i cant say they are even learning all the stuff we work on every day. yet i feel they need to do something. i have found some other resources for info on how to make my own curric and living curric which sounds alot like what you are doing. i just always feel so worried about them learning enough...
Our curric is a work in progess for sure. I have ideas of what I want out of hs but its figuring out how to make that happen that is the problem. I just discovered living math and i love the idea. this is what i want hs to look like. I am looking into math on the level and it seems amazing. i would love to incorporate lots of literature into our learning. i would like a more natural way of learning than books and workbooks all day. i just dont know how to make it happen....
thanks for your thoughts. you have some good ideas and i liked what you said.    i dont think video games are a dead end - i just told him yesterday that if he wanted to 'grow up' to design video game classes that i would help him start working towards that right now. he didnt seem to care. I enrolled him in a 'how to design a video game' class and he hates it. he plays minecraft alot and that is very creative, and he is a part of a forum for it and goes on you tube all...
thanks : ) i have tried to talk to my ods about what he would like to learn, or even what he thinks he might want to do when he graduates high school. he doesnt have an answer beyond all he wants to do is play video games. he says he doesnt want to learn anything and hates learning. (ps really ruined it for him) i want him to want to learn, but i dont know what to do. i cant just not do some sort of school work during the week. lol. my others ods is very motivated and...
