My Beco Butterfly is my main go-to carrier. The special y-insert is so helpful for back carries and moving the baby to another person. I love it and so does my daughter!
I have been using the Beco Butterfly II for about 5 months now, my son is currently 8 months old. It is very easy to use and a great value. Included is the infant insert so you can start using it right from the start and it goes up to 45lbs so that will last you well into toddler age. The straps are super soft and not bulky like other carriers. They are easy to adjust and can fit all body types. My husband and I share the carrier with no problems. The back carry is super easy thanks to the internal harness. This also makes it easier to pass the baby onto someone else without having to take him out of the carrier. The internal harness makes me feel very secure when doing a back carry, something which I thought would be too difficult for me. The fabric is super soft and absolutely stunning. They have so many beautiful and modern options which makes it hard to choose just one. Overall I would recommend this product to anyone. It is truly unique, innovative, a great value and a must for all parents.
This carrier has helped me so much with my son. He loves being carried and I would not deny him that. Now I don't have to sacrifice comfort to meet his needs. He happily stays in the Beco while we are out running errands, at home cleaning, and it is one of the easiest ways to get him to nap.
So to anyone thinking about a Beco or another SSC, go with the Beco! You won't regret it!
Last thing, these have an excellent resell value, so when you're done using it with your baby you can always sell it to another mama.
Pros
Cons
Easy back carry, infant insert included, works great for all body types, beauiful, the list goes on! This carrier is awesome.
None besides the fact that they are so georgeous that you want to buy one in every color!
I have tried many baby carriers (over 10 different kinds, as a matter of fact), This is by far the most comfort one I ever owned. I love that it is easy to use, I could easily breast feed while my infant is in the carrier. The print is adorable. I have a bad back from carrying my oldest daughter around when she was a toddler, so having the Beco Butterfly 2 for my second baby is a back saver. It might seem a bit pricey at first, but it is well worth the money for what the length of time I was able to use it -- especially since I use it regularly. It's very handy to be able to carry my baby in the carrier while I cook, clean or chase after my older daughter at playdates. We actually love it so much that we have recommended it to all of our friends.
We purchased this carrier to use with my son who is now 9 mos. and bought it when he was 3 mos. old. My husband and I had the chance to try both this carrier and an Ergo out with our son in it at a local store, and this one was a much better fit for us. It literally fit my husband and I better than the Ergo- we're both around 5'5 (dh is 5'6) and dh and are both on the heavier side with dh being 250. The Beco straps are wide enough for us to be comfortable. I do wish it was easier to adjust, though. I am unable to adjust it myself when I wear it and need the help of another person to loosen or tighten the straps. I also LOVE that the infant insert was included with the carrier and that it came with a sleep hood. Less accessories to purchase separately means less of a hassle on my end!
Pros
Cons
Infant insert included with carrier/ fits great on larger frames
I have a spine injury and was told I could not hold my 8 lbs newborn, but with physical therapy and agreeing to use the carrier, I was able to carry my daughter around, even when she was 1.5 and I was 8 month pregnant it was the easier thing to use and still hold my daughter.
Now my newborn(2 months now) loves it, been using it since she was 2 days old(born at almost 10 lbs). She fusses in all my other carriers, but she just loves the beco. It holds her perfectly on me.
I love the fact I can just slide it on with the chest clip already done, then slide my child in and clip the straps up. With other carriers I could not do this because it did not have the inner fabric to hold the child and carrier to you, your straps were against you and you could not just slide your child in.
This is one of the best investments you can ever make!
We LOVE our Beco, best idea ever! The reason we chose the Beco over the Ergo is because we felt it was a bit more comfortable than the Ergo and it offered a bit more. For starters, the Beco came complete with sleepy hood infant insert, and it was organic ($140). The Ergo was a bit more expensive, the carrier with infant insert and organic was going to be close to $200, the Beco was the better value, more attractive and not as bulky as the ergo.
Second, we liked the fact that Beco's are made in California, we like to support products made in the USA.
Third, the Beco's body is taller and slimmer vs the Ergo wider and bulkier. This is important to consider as both carriers are meant for toddlers up to 40+lbs. Something to note, bot brands distribute the weight of your baby between your shoulders and hips and not your back like the crappy bjorns. Here is a good comparison video,
Lastly, very unique is the inner panel, it really sold us! We find that it's a life saver, especially when every min counts. We are both working parents and there is times when our baby was asleep and we didn't have to take him out of our carrier, it just transfers form mom to dad without waking him up, priceless! Here is a great video that helped us make the decision,
All in all, the ergo is a great carrier but we loved the Beco even more, it's a better value and it looks much better!
Pros
Cons
Organic, Infant Insert & Sleepy Hood included, VERY COMMFY, NOT BULKY!
Wonderful. Not for Caesarean mamas with lingering pain though.

This is a lovely carrier! However the belt and buckle sit right over my CS scar, which unfortunately is hypertrophic, so I can't use it without experiencing discomfort or pain. Something to consider for moms who are looking at carriers, as I wish I'd thought of that
They are great for dads though, for sure!
Pros
Cons
Easy to use, quality workmanship, variety of prints
I am sorry you are having discomfort. I had 2 sections and also have a very sensitive incision site. The beco is very comfortable for me. I have no pain whatsoever. So maybe for moms who have had a section they should rent one before buying to see if they have the pain or not. As it won't be the same for everyone. I hope you can find a carrier that doesn't cause you discomfort. Have you tried a woven wrap or even a mei tai? Good luck.
I use to have a Snugli and knew I wanted better for my son. I bought the BBII and LOVE it! It is so comfortable. I have NO back paid at all. There is not one spot on my body that has pain from carrying my son around. He is so secure in it. I l'm so glad I have one!
I absolutely love my Beco butterfly II. It has been a life saver. My 10 month old had sever reflux. The beco was the only comfortable position for him. Wearing him in the beco allowed me to clean my house, run errands (did not wear him while driving!), and spend time with my older son. If not for the beco no one would sleep in my house and my house would be on hoarders. For real! He lives in the beco. He loves being next to mommy. Plus I can kiss him whenever I want. Oh and breastfeeding is super easy while wearing him in the beco. Get yours today!!
Pros
Cons
Happy baby, always kissable, clean house, happy mama
Easy to use, and comfy too! Didn't take up a lot of space in a diaper bag, which made it easy to tote around & kept it readily available. Love how adjustable it was and how nicely my kiddo fit. ) Wish I could have used it for outward facing (as my lil guy was very curious and sometimes wanted to look around.) But all in all, it was great!
Pros
Cons
easy to put on, and easy to adjust. Plus, comfy!
Not always usable as my kiddo likes to face outwards, and this carrier is for facing towards the mama.
This is by far the best carrier ever. And we tried a few. The best part is that my husand can wear our little one as well. This past summer we travelled across the country and stopped at many attractions, our daughter is extreme active and a risk taker, but we would pop her in the Beco and she would enjoy the sights from the Beco and we knew she was safe!! My daugher is now 2.5 years and it has been a wonderful carrier, with lots of use and still doesnt show wear. A great carrier and I will stand on any soapbox to tell others, this is the one to buy!!
I bought this carrier after I had my second daughter and it has been amazing. I have had 2 more kiddos since and it's been a huge help for my little ones. The infant panel is awesome, it fits well, and I love the Y panel, because it makes me feel more secure putting them on my back. It has held up since 2008 and still going strong. I love it!!
Pros
Cons
Secure, easy, great for back carry, very comfortable, long waist belt
I truly love my Beco Butterfly II. It's versatile and even hubby loves ours. We chose the Beco over the Ergo for a few reasons. I like the internal structure. You can move the carrier without removing baby. I can put my toddler on my front, which is easiest for me and switch her to my back quickly and with little help. I can even wear her now and she is 2 years old and I am nearly 6 months pregnant. I like that I can wear her on my back and move the belt below my belly and still wear her! Hubby wore her a few weeks ago for a few hours when we went to the zoo to see Christmas lights. The infant insert was wonderful, as was the hood when she was little. The only con from this carrier is you cannot forward face, and I do believe my now 2 year old would love being on my front and forward faced. However, the majority of the time I do not have a desire to forward face her. So it's not enough to entice me to get a Gemini I will stick with my Butterfly II for my next little girl coming in April!
I absolutely love my Beco Butterfly 2! It is the most comfortable of any carriers that I have tried. I get so many compliments on it, even more than I get on my baby herself, HA! I can easily carry my 2 year old nd my newborn, thanks to the newborn insert that is INCLUDED, unlike other brands. This is a must-have products for all moms and dads!
I had a BBII with my youngest son before he outgrew the need to be worn (now he RUNS everywhere we go haha).. It was honestly my favorite carrier that I had during his infancy. The comfort level was great, the available prints were a plus too. Overall the durability and usability of this product are high, and I would recommend them to my friends. My only complaint is that the body was a bit short. My son is all torso, and a terrible leaner. So, we had to go with something a bit longer for him. Now I think he'd have no problems riding around in it if he weren't so big! I am hoping to buy another when my daughter is born this coming spring.
Pros
Cons
Great for small infants, easy on the back, cute, wearable, easy to adjust, not too hot
This is easily the best carrier I have ever tried. The prints are adorable, it is so simple to use and adjust, and it can accommodate newborns to toddlers! My daughter is almost 3 and I still regularly carry her on my back with ZERO strain. I am a plus-sized momma and this fits me very comfortably. My husband loves it too. And my daughter is happy as a clam riding on our backs! Best of all, I know it will fit from newborn stage onward for whenever we are blessed with another baby. I always recommend Beco to everyone who asks, and I have gotten so many compliments everywhere we go.
The Beco is awesome because I can still carry my toddler who is over 30 (it will hold up to 45) pounds. He is comfy and so am I. Its so helpful in many ways. We shop at a bulk store and they don't have carts! Pretty hard to carry bulk items and a 2.5 year old...not anymore. He can just ride on my back. Yeah! That's is just one of the ways it helps. I recommend one for any momma!
I Love love love this carrier! I had tried other ones before this one and noone compares! This SSC is slim, comfy, very pretty and well worth the money! I love the Y shaped peice of cloth it helps ease alot of my husbands fears Its a dream to wear not to bad on your shoulders! I will get my friends one when they have babies too!
I love, love, love this carrier. I borrowed one from a friend, and ever since, I've wanted one but couldn't afford it! So, I settled and got another brand (which shall remain nameless) that I liked alright, but it wasn't a Beco. So, I waited and waited and FINALLY, Beco had a sale! So, I got myself a BB2. And, guess what... I don't even have a baby anymore. Ha! But, I have my Butterfly 2 ready for my next baby (which isn't even planned yet!) It's that awesome.
I love that you are able to load the baby into the carrier itself, rather than having the carrier hold the baby against your body. Not that that's bad, but it's so much more easy to transfer to a back wear this way, which is imperative for me since I had major lower back surgery when I was 24. And, I always suffer with back pain and any other carrier I've ever used has hurt my back too bad to wear long-term. Not this one... I was able to wear it for 2 days straight (when I borrowed my friend's) at Disneyland with a 25-lb baby without any pain.
This is the best carrier I have used. I have a 6 week old. She was too small for my sling and other carriers. I tried a Beco. It was pricey, but worth every penny. It's sturdy, organic and great quality. It's easy to use, can throw it on in the parking lot. My newborn fits comfortably and I am hands free and no back pain!!! Best carrier on the market. And stylish to top it off!
Pros
Cons
Easy to get on, easy for baby/newborn, comfortable
I love love love my BB2. I feel very confident putting my baby in it knowing she is safely inserted into the carrier instead of dangling loose between a piece of fabric and myself. I can back carry her without any safety worries. I trust Beco and their quality products, with the welfare of my baby girl!
Pros
Cons
very comfortable for both Baby and I. feels very safe. easy to operate.
I don't think Babywearing is for everyone. I think it depends on both the mother and the child. I am perfectly happy to wear a child - but my oldest would never have gone for it. Even at a week old he wanted to be on the floor where he could see everything. However, my second was a hip-hugger from day one. He wasn't happy unless he was being held. He's almost 2 and he still wants to be held a lot. I researched a lot before buying a carrier. I had tried the Bjorn ($2 at a thrift store!) but didn't ever really understand why it wasn't very comfortable. I wanted a carrier that would allow me to put him on my back, without help, and be right next to me (the hiking kid carrier just didn't work around the house!). Mostly I got confused by all the different advice online because I feel like people are so sure that babywearing is for everyone and there's only one way to do it. But when I went to Beco's website I felt like they were very clear about the features and the pros and cons. Once I purchased my Butterfly II I have never looked back. I love it. I haven't tried breastfeeding with him in it because he weaned himself pretty early - but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be tough. I would love to be able to wear him on my hip - which I've tried with the Butterfly, but it just wasn't designed for that! So maybe I'd like to add a Gemini to my stash - but really I am perfectly happy with this product and highly recommend it to those who want their kid close - or those kids who insist on being close!
Pros
Cons
The ability to put baby on back without help. Very comfortable for mom and baby!
Works great for a full range of ages/sizes of babies. I used it for my newborn, I also used it with my second child from a few months old until I was 8 months pregnant(she was 19 months old then)
The padding is great, fits wonderfully on me and my husband, does not hurt my back like other carriers I have used, I have a spinal injury and this works well for holding my kids!
I love this carrier and can not wait to own 2 of them!
Pros
Cons
works for a range of sizes, well padded, easy to use
After months of using my Baby Bjorn, my back literally ached after every time I used it. I just couldn't take it anymore after 3 months. So after doing a lot of research and asking hundreds of moms (via facebook, friends, babysites), everyone agreed -- get the Beco Butterfly II. So, I did, and I've been so grateful ever since! It is fashionable, comfortable, super easy to use, can be worn in so many different ways, and best of all... COMFORTABLE! I had a C-Section with my LO and had absolutely no issues using it a few weeks later. It is so adjustable, that its as comfortable for me to wear it (I'm short at 5'3) as it is for my 6ft tall husband! If you want style, comfort, durability, something that will last -- buy this carrier ... you will not regret it!
Pros
Cons
Easy to Use, Comfortable, Durable, Machine Washable
I absolutely love my beco butterfly!! I got it from pax baby.com and got to get a custom order of the Isis print
My uses so far include the needy infant with RSV and being able to do breathing treatments while asleep in my beco. Carrying him through the airport and going across multiple terminals for a connecting flight in 10 minutes!!! We ran and he thought it was HILARIOUS. We use it at almost every grocery trip! It keeps him from throwing the groceries out of the cart! My friend borrowed it with her preemie and used the infant insert and she has fallen in love.
We have also used it to carry him the miles it takes to get to the Arlington ballpark with all the crowds I know exactly where my son is at all times and that he is happy looking at everyone (not at their knees in a stroller).
I'm so proud when I have him in my carrier because my arms don't hurt and he's so comfy! My son is now 21mo and 27# and recently slept through our mall Christmas shopping trip.
Another plus - cuddle time!! You know that a toddler nearing the 2 yr mark doesnt want to be held, but when my son is in my beco, he's a cuddle monster and I LOVE IT!!!! Thank you Beco!!!
