Lansinoh Lanolin for Breastfeeding Mothers 2 oz (56 g)

Pros: small, inexpensive

Cons: doesn't really make a difference

I think this compounded my issue of nipple pain because the reason for the pain was thrush and keeping them moist and sealed with the lanolin was making it worse.  Definately need to know why the pain exists.

Pros: thick

Cons: thick-too thick to get out of tube at times, super sticky, hard to wash off of hands

I started using Lansinoh 5 years ago when my first son was born.  I loved the yellow stuff.  The newer clear stuff isn't as good.  My second son didn't like the taste and would reject my nipple because of it and preferred when I used the Medela lanolin which is much thinner and easier to spread.  When you have sore nipples it's hard to spread super thick stuff but it does stay on longer but I found I had to wipe it off which really didn't help as sore as I was.  Also I found that I couldn't get it out of the tube at all when it was room temperature.  I had to put it under my leg while I was nursing (between my leg and the chair) to warm it up enough to get it out.

Pros: Moisterizing, Soothes discomfort, decent for diaper cream

Cons: Too thick, Didn't work as well as other brands

I feel that this product was too thick, almost hard to get out of the tube. It also didn't work as well as Earth Mama Angel Baby Nipple cream, either, and the scent was not as nice. But I do like it for diaper cream.

Pros: Soothing and safe

Cons: Thick , expensive

The very first night with my first daughter, I was half asleep and attempting to nurse. Her latch was off just enough to leave a large bruise and extreme tenderness. Without lansinoh, the first week would have been much worse. I was glad to have the piece of mind that lansinoh is safe to use with my infant. One down side is that Lansinoh is expensive. But, It is super thick so a little goes a long way.

Pros: works like a charm, multipurpose

Cons: pricey

A little goes a long way and it's super multi purpose (rashes, lanolinizing woolies, cuts, scrapes, chapped lips, etc) I love lanolin in general and we use it all the time but lansinoh brand is so expensive I special order tubes of lanolin at cvs and get it for a third of the price!

I give it 4.5 because its marvelous (.5 lost on price)

Make it a 4 if you dont like a slight sheep-y smell.... i happen to love it.

Really not that different from other lanolin products, but at good quality and a reasonable price. I understand that some women have more pain or soreness with breastfeeding than I have, so I feel lucky in that regard. Even so, it is great to have something on hand to soothe dry, chapped nipples, especially after a growth spurt, and Lansinoh is definitely a trusted brand name. I have only gone through half a tube thus far, and my little one is two months old, but I expect to run out well before he is finished breastfeeding, so I will definitely be headed back to the store for more!

Pros: heals 'ouches' quickly

Cons: stains and can be hard to apply at lower temperatures

I love this product... when I first started breastfeeding particularly. It heals sore and cracked nipples quickly, is reasonably priced and is easily sourced from most drugstores. The cons to this product are that stains clothing...however, if you make sure you are wearing breast pads when you are using it then your clothes will be protected. It is also hard to squeeze out of the tube and apply at lower temperatures. I still use it now, and have also found it useful as lip balm. My daughter -  now nearly 2 brings it to me whenever I have an 'ouch', and also applies it to her dolls nipples!

Pros: safe for baby and mama

I used this stuff multiple times a day while breastfeeding. You don't have to wipe it off before breastfeeding which is convenient. You can use it for other things, too, like lanolizing wool covers, diaper cream, rash ointment, dry skin, etc.

Pros: safe for baby to eat, good for protecting dry/chapped skin, lasts FOREVER

Cons: can be difficult to apply to sensitive/sore nipples, especially when the product is cold, sticky-sticks to clothing/breast pads/baby's face

I loved using Lanisoh pure lanolin in the first few months of nursing DS, when I was dealing with serious nipple pain. The cream gave him white face, but it was worth it -- not only because it made my nipples feel less pained, but because it also gave me something to laugh at - the lanolin all over DS's mouth! I agree with previous posters, it would be nice if the product was packaged in smaller packages, since I only used about an eighth of the package. It would also be nice if the packaging were in the form of a tub or something similarly easier than a tube to get product out of. I DO however like the change in the packaging, the new tube design is much easier to squeeze.

I also use this product for my eczema. It absorbs and moisturizes better than petroleum jelly, not to mention that the product is not petroleum derived! I usually put it on before I go to bed at night, and it means that I don't have to worry about reapplying the lanolin until the next night unless I get a really bad outbreak that forces me to apply the product a couple of times per day.

I will keep this in the house whenever I am nursing a newborn and as long as I still suffer from eczema.
