New Native Organic Cotton Baby Carrier

Pros: easy to wear, easy to carry baby, easy to nurse with baby in sling

Cons: at times, felt restrictive for my husband who is taller and has wider shoulders.

This was my favorite sling to use.  I could nurse in it very easily and both the baby and I were comfortable and safe.

Pros: Easy to use, small size makes it easy to transport, style keeps baby safe and close to Mama, can be used for many ages/positions, great for nursing!

Cons: Works better for older babies - newborns tend to slide down in the pouch and require the use of an infant support pillow or rolled towel

When I was a new Mama to my first daughter in 2008, I was desperate to find a way to keep my little lass close and still be able to maintain my mobility. After surveying the vast landscape of baby carrying accessories, I came across the New Native pouch. Fairly inexpensive, user friendly and easy to transport in the diaper bag, the New Native quickly became my go-to baby wearing method. The major benefit of the pouch was ease of nursing - I was able to nurse my daughter anywhere on the move - the supermarket, a busy boardwalk in the middle of summer, or while having dinner with my partner. The pouch design allows for discretion during nursing, if you desire or if you have an easily distracted nurser, because you can pull the outside flap over the outside of the baby's head (while still maintaining easy respiration and not blocking baby's nose or mouth). In my experience, the pouch works best starting with an infant of 4 months+ - with newborns you will need to use an infant support pillow (company offers one) or the rolled up towel method suggested in the New Native directions to maintain a newborn's proper head position for respiration. The pouch was especially great when my babes hit the 6 to 9 month mark, allowing curious little ones a bird's eye view of their environment. Another plus is that the pouch can be used in a variety of positions and for many ages and the online /enclosed directions do a nice job of explaining how to safely use the pouch. Of course, like any baby carrier, you might experience shoulder pain after a long period of wearing the baby or as your little one grows, but overall if you follow the wearing instructions, the experience of wearing your baby in the New Native pouch is comfortable. Highly recommend a purchase, unless you would like to try to make your own pouch - many online sites have patterns for you to try and it's easy to do with the right fabric!

Pros: perfect for a newborn

Cons: not adjustable

I got my New Native as a gift when I was pregnant with my son. It was a difficult pregnancy and birth. My son spent some time in the NICU and I was completely exhausted but having my baby close was a huge source of comfort to both of us.

I love pouch slings for newborns and I would recommend one to anyone. I still have my New Native and it is in great shape.
