Works well, but only with the IQ valve

Posted

Pros: special massage padding helps get more milk

Cons: star-shaped flat valve gets sucked through every time, lots of parts to assemble

I get a lot more milk using this pump than either of the electric pumps (both Medela) I tried. I'm not sure if it's their special 'let down cushion' on the cup, or just that I can get more using a hand pump. So I love that about it. However, if you use this pump make sure it comes with the 'IQ valve', which looks like a plug, and NOT the flat, disc-shaped valve with an asterisk on it. That one gets sucked through each and every time, multiple times. It falls into the milk and has to be fished out with a finger after disassembling the whole pump. I called Philips customer service and they sent me the IQ valve, so make sure you get this one, otherwise this pump is really annoying to use....

Great manual pump

Posted

Pros: LOVE the silicone part that sits against the breast-helps promote let down

Cons: valve is small and hard to keep track of when washing, lots of parts

I love this manual pump.  The only downside is that it has a lot of small parts so you really have to be careful when hand washing otherwise you may lose a valve or something.  I have had a few times I had to take it apart because I had issues getting suction to work but I've used this for 5 years between two kids with just a short time off between them and I really love this pump.  I haven't even had to replace any valves or anything unlike my electric Ameda Purely Yours which has valves that wear out after a while.

love it!

Pros: go anywhere, pump anywhere

Cons: takes longer

I loved my manual pump and still use it on car trips and such. It takes longer for me to pump with it than the electric but im a sahm so it doesnt really matter!

I'm neutral about this pump

Posted

Pros: functional and cost friendly

Cons: didn't get more milk like some said

I got this hoping that I could get some more milk volume but I wasn't one of the fortunate I guess.  My hands would wear out before I finished pumping.  I'll stick to the double electric.

Did not Work to draw out milk

Posted

Pros: The flange is very soft

Cons: I couldn't get milk out with it

I had this pump as my very first pump with my first baby. If I had based milk production off of this pump I would have though I was starving my baby! Even after hours of not nursing I'd pump .5 oz. It just did not work at all for me! the flange was soft but it just didn't draw the milk out! I tried an electric after this and what a huge difference!!!

Didn't work for me

Posted

Pros: cheap, as far as pumps go

Cons: I could express better by hand

This just didn't work for me. I know it's supposed to have good reviews, but I really could express better by hand.  I found it uncomfortable, messy, and honestly kind of useless.    I had no problems with an electric pump given to me by the milk bank I sent my extra milk to.

Comfortable to use

Posted

Pros: ease of use, dishwasher safe, no need for electricity, use anywhere, inexpensive

Cons: can only pump one side at a time, not hands free

I never could get comfortable using an electric pump- so this pump was essential to my nursing success.  I found I was able to pump more milk, more quickly and comfortably than with an electric pump.  As some others have mentioned, the IQ valve makes it work significantly better, but I think that comes standard now.  It's quiet, quick and easy to clean, and easy to get replacement parts if something gets lost or damaged.  All the parts are able to be completely sterilized, so you can pass it along to a friend or re-sell it when you don't need it any more.  It's also MUCH less expensive than other pumps, so it can be a good place to start with pumping if you're...

Great little pump!

Posted

Pros: Easy to take apart/clean/reassemble, Pumps milk quickly/easily, Great for on the go, Compact/portable, Great for the price

Cons: Manual - so have to pay attention to what you're doing!

I loved my little hand pump, but I ended up donating it instead of saving it after I was done using it. Now, I wish I saved it! Oh, well. I could pump my milk so fast with this!! Since I was manually pumping the milk, I could control the speed and intensity. The soft silicone on the breast-shield helps to massage the breast and encourage let-down. The times I was most glad to have my pump was when I was out without my baby and my breasts were so sore and tight from not breastfeeding. This was really great to relieve the pressure. And then I could save the milk for the next time I was out! I highly recommend this simple-to-use, reliable hand pump for anyone who's planning on...

Best manual pump for me

Posted

Pros: Easy to use, very effective, quick let down

Cons: valves must be replaced OFTEN

This was the best pump for me, at the time I had tried several pumps, including a manual medela, electric medela double pump, a first years pump, and a Gerber pump.     I experienced NO PAIN with this pump -- my suggestion is that if you are larger in the breast area like me to remove the silicone thing and just use the pump without it.       I had QUICK let downs with this pump too and not a single issue - it's small enough you can even pump under your clothes.  I did have to replace the valve's quite often, sometimes once every two days once I went back to work for optimum efficiency.  I would definitely recommend this pump!    ...

Used while working full-time and loved it!

Posted

Pros: Was very easy to use, I really felt it emptied my breasts

Cons: Can be slightly annoying if you're using two at a time.

I've had a great experience with this pump.  I initially bought it so that I could use it for a date night with DH and had planned on buying a "real" pump once I went back to work.  However, it worked out so well for me (and I got a second one free from a friend) that I just used both of them when I went back to work.  The thing I can think of to complain about at all is that it does take a bit of coordination if you're pumping on both sides at one time! Beyond that I had no complaints.   I'm pregnant with my second right now and have already bought two new ones for when I go back to work (my old pumps were used quite a bit and since buying new ones...

Great for occasional use

Posted

Pros: Cheap, stimulates good let-down, easy to clean

Cons: Hand gets tired

I'm SAHM so I didn't need a really great / electric pump, just something to get a few ounces now and then for if my husband and I wanted to go out by ourselves for a few hours.  I really like this pump.  It was really cheap, like 20 bucks.  It's easy to put together and take apart for cleaning.  I haven't had any trouble with the "asterisk-shaped" flat valve.  It is a manual pump so yeah, after a while your hand gets tired, but it's great for using just every once in a while.  It's pretty comfortable and I get good let-down from it.

had it and liked it

Posted

Pros: small and easy to use

Cons: too many pieces to clean

Every time I pumped it was a slow start, but once my milk let out IT WOULD FLOW!  I used this pump at work, I liked that it was small enough to fit into my lunch bag with room to spare.  It was comfortable to use, I guess due to the "soft petal" thing, but I never used any other breast pumps because I got this one for free.  I don't know how it compares to other brands or styles.    The only thing I didn't like about it was that there were lots of small parts to clean.  I don't have a dishwasher, so that was a definite drawback.  I used this back in 07, and am due to have my second LO in feb/mar, I've been shopping for a pump and they...

My go-to pump everytime

Posted

Pros: Ease of use, comfortable, smaller to carry for work, able to pump more over a shorter period of time.

Cons: Several of little pieces for cleaning & assembly

I love my ISIS manual breast pump, it is hands down in my opinion an easier to use pump for any mother who is pumping for their little one.  It is easier to take to work and store as it often fit easily into my work bag with several bottles, instead of forcing me to carry my electric pump day in and day out.  A previous poster noted difficulties with the flat disk valve and I have never had any of the troubles of the valve popping out while pumping, except if I had too much pressure built up while pumping.  This often causes the valves to pop, but can be easily avoided by taking breaks and releasing the seal between the breast and the pump.   The pump came with additional parts for...
