Sophie is a great teething toy. Actually it's the only teething toy our daughter will use.

I bought Sophie because of the good reviews on this site. I had never actually heard of her before then. My daughter LOVES her, but so do her older brother and sister! The big two like to squeak her a lot which gets a little annoying, but when the baby is playing with Sophie, she will bang her on the ground (like she's walking) and it makes just a faint cute little squeak! Love it :)

I ordered the Sophie the GIraffe teether for my five month old daughter who was teething hard and chewing on *everything*. The initial odor of the natural rubber was a bit strong, but it didn't seem to bother DD. It dissipated after a day or two and hasn't been an issue since. It's been about six weeks since we got Sophie, and she's been a favorite toy of DD's. I pulled a handful of toys out of her basket today, and she immediately went for Sophie. She can grab almost anywhere on the teether and get a good grip, plus plenty of space to chew on. The "give" of the rubber seems to be just right as a teething surface. My son loved this teether when he was little. Even now at 17 months, he still likes it even though has graduated to more hardcore teething aids like ice in a sock! The neck and legs are really easy for the little guys to hold, and I think they must like the bold pattern. This teether is really durable also. I even put it through the dishwasher a couple times (out of laziness!), and it held up just fine. Sophie is definitely a must have!

I've seen some babies who love their Sophie; our daughter thinks it's ok.  Some days she really likes it, but other days she has no interest.  It does have a good variety of appendages to chew on and the squeeker is relatively easy to use.  If this were a gift or a hand-me-down, then you have a great teether.  I wouldn't go buy one for my daughter if she needed a teether though, due to the price.  Usually our daughter prefers teething on textured surfaces.

My son didn't show much interest in Sophie until he started teething and grabbing things. However, now he loves Sophie. In fact, this is the only teether we have that he actually uses as a teether! He chews on her legs and horns and gets a big smile on his face when you squeek her!

My husband was skeptical when he saw how much I was paying for a small, rubber giraffe, but Sophie has proved her worth time and time again. My child loves to gnaw on her legs and head. This soothes his gums and makes for a fun toy when he's not teething. What would we do without Sophie? I've read a couple reviews that spoke of the legs as being a possible choking hazard, but you should be supervising your child anyway, right? Great toy. Invaluable.

My mom purchased Sophie the Giraffe for my son right after he was born, and he has loved her ever since he could hold a toy!  Sophie's a great first toy, and the natural rubber is perfect to let your baby teeth on.  You can rest assured that there aren't any scary phthalates or other toxins in this beautiful toy.  And, it can be an heirloom toy - made in France and comes in a cute box with a souvenir certificate.  :) The only drawback is that the natural rubber can wear out and get holes in it if your baby loves Sophie as much as mine does.

My 4 month old can handle this toy easily and can manipulate it however she chooses.  She likes to suck on sophie's face. However, after about 5mins she seems to get frustrated with it and begins to fuss and immediately stops playing with it. I can't figure out why she does that.  Maybe the smell or taste bothers her?  The smell is very strong and I wonder if it is "healthy".  I've thought twice about not using sophie because of the smell.  Also, things obviously stick to the rubber easily.  I often find little pieces of hair or other random junk on it.  I rinse it off frequently throughout the day just in case little dog hairs sneak onto it.
