The Essential Homebirth Guide is the first book in decades to specifically address a homebirth audience. The book is written by two homebirth midwives, Jane E. Drichta, CPM and Jodilyn Owen, CPM and gives an excellent overview of pregnancy and birth and the options available to birthing families.

Written in a Q & A format, the book begins with a description of what prenatal care from a homebirth midwife is like. It addresses the significance of making the decision to have a homebirth as a family and the impact of pregnancy and birth on the couple. Also included is an outstanding section on informed consent and how to make a good decision.

The Essential Homebirth Guide offers information on labor and birth at home and rare information on vaginal birth at home after a cesarean (vbac) as well as resources for higher risk mothers. This is an important book for anyone considering or planning a homebirth and the information on pregnancy and birth is helpful for a birth in any setting.
