I hate Microfleece!

Well, sewing with it at least.

I've made 3 diapers. They're all the VB AIO pattern, but I use the tutorial they offer and change it to pocket diapers. 2 of them are nice (for first diapers, lol). Slightly wonky, but not bad all in all. They're made of pul & suedecloth.

But the other one! Ick! It's made of pul & microfleece and I had the most awful time ever sewing it! The material kept stretching and stretching even though I used a glue stick and TRIED not to stretch the fabric. It's awful. I think probably unusable.

I have just under 6 yards of microfleece, so I need to be able to figure out how to sew with the stuff so I'm not wasting almost $60 of fabric. :

What are your tips & tricks for sewing with pul & microfleece together?

I'm totally new to this board and to sewing with those particular materials. But if the problem is stretchiness, I can share one trick I've used for other fabrics, which is to sandwich the fabric between a top and bottom layer of newspaper (or transparent tracing paper, wax paper...) to sew. It prevents any stretching and tears off easily along the sewed line. Just hard to see through, and definitely adds to the PITA factor in terms of control.

I've also heard recently that loosening your presser foot can solve the stretching problem. I'm not sure to what degree. It would certainly be easier than newspaper.

I'm curious to hear from the more experienced sewers on this...

I would try pinning - you can pin, just stay within the seam allowance with the pins. Decreasing your presser foot tension will help too. If you have a walking foot try using it.
Hang in there!

Thanks, the pinning helped a lot. I am a bit scared to try the newspaper idea. But the pinning really helped a lot.

I'm about to try sewing my own receiving blankets, made from a stretch jersey fabric--always so intimidating for me. I'm glad for this thread, I'll be trying these things too!
