The recipes were pretty much what you'd expect.

It's confusing, because they talk about eating healthy, and in the book they link to healthy eating sites, but the recipes are all processed crap, all they're ever shown eating is processed crap, and all they have in their pantry is processed crap. I get that it's difficult to cook whole foods from scratch with that many kids in the family, but surely some of the kids are old enough to "train" to make a loaf of bread?!?

They actually come out better in the book than they do other places. Not that I want to try them, mind you. But it's less scary.

I was surprised how much I liked it as well.
One thing that really impressed me is that they made it clear they don't consider themselves "professional parents" and they don't think people should necessarily emulate them. They make it clear that the stuff they do, they do because of personal conviction through prayer and Bible study.
The book actually had a lot of good logistical advice for large families.
