I haven't read it yet, has anyone here?

Oh...I want it for Christmas or my Birthday!

It would be an interesting read, but I am not gonna buy it. I'll see if the library can get it.

Oh wow, awesome! I totally have to read it. I <3 the Duggars. :

I definitely do not love the Duggars but they do intrigue me so I may have to read the book (especially since we don't have TV and I can't watch the show).

thanks for posting this!

I want to read it.

I think I would find their 'book' interesting, & mildly compelling to read, mostly for the car-crash factor.

However I wouldn't be caught dead buying it, much less checking it out of the library. So if it ever makes it's way to Australia's shores I will be sure to read/skim it privately when we visit our local public shelves.

Oh man I want to read it just for teh recipes. If they are anything like whta they put online, it will be pretty funny.

I take it you've read the book? How do you know that's what it's about?

The link in the original post, which advertises the book, says that you get to learn about the Duggars' child-rearing techniques. Their techniques include Blanket Training and the Buddy System.

this link is directly from the duggar family website. I have it on preorder and CAN'T WAIT!!!!

It's in "processing" status at my local library, which means they bought it and either they're waiting for it to arrive or they're putting it into their system. I requested it, so as soon as I get it, I'll post.

I wanted the book for Christmas but got it a few days earlier on my 23rd anniversary. It was so good I read it in one sitting. Michelle did a good job in answering a lot of questions I see on the various forums.

I noted that on many forums people claim that the parents no can can possibly give one to one time to these kids. Yet, when I read the book it seems that the kids often come to their room at night for a heart to heart chat. The parents do not work outside of the room, nor do they farm their children out so they are together much more than most children and parents, thus I am sure that they have more tme with their parents and attention from them than most families.

I liked the book more than I thought I would... kinda how I like their TV show more than I thought I would (and no... not in a train-wreck, let's criticize sort of way). I actually think that while they may not do everything the way I would, that they are, on the whole, pretty good parents raising their kids pretty well. :

Yesterday, I picked up the Jon & Kate book at the library...so I'm going to try and read it tonight. I'll let you know how I think the two compare.

Oh... and I am ashamed to admit that I made tater tot casserole last night. (Must have been because I watched the Duggar Marathon at my Mom's house.) I've never had it... and I've just heard too much about it. Heck, I don't even like Tater Tots... but yesterday I bought a bag at the grocery store. My eldest loved it, DS2 didn't like it. DP thought it was OK... but I don't need to add it into the regular rotation.

I will say that I have made the ice cream sandwich cake before (even before I knew of the Duggars)... and that is mighty tasty!

OK, I'm so glad I bought the Duggar book and not the J&K book. Granted, I've only glanced through it... but it's basically their "story"... the same stuff you can get from watching the opening of the TV show. There's no tips on organization (what I wanted! ), no recipes (like I would have loved Jon's Hawaiian Fried Rice), parenting tips...nothing but their story. It's also heavily religoius... much more preachy than the Duggar book... but that may have to do with it being published by Zondervan. I don't see how this would appeal to their TV audience, who know the story very well.

All in all, Duggar book much easier to glance through and glean some tips. J&K... nothing new.

Oh, and Kate's releasing a book in time for Mother's Day filled with photos and scripture.

The recipes were pretty much what you'd expect.

It's confusing, because they talk about eating healthy, and in the book they link to healthy eating sites, but the recipes are all processed crap, all they're ever shown eating is processed crap, and all they have in their pantry is processed crap. I get that it's difficult to cook whole foods from scratch with that many kids in the family, but surely some of the kids are old enough to "train" to make a loaf of bread?!?

They actually come out better in the book than they do other places. Not that I want to try them, mind you. But it's less scary.

I was surprised how much I liked it as well.

One thing that really impressed me is that they made it clear they don't consider themselves "professional parents" and they don't think people should necessarily emulate them. They make it clear that the stuff they do, they do because of personal conviction through prayer and Bible study.

The book actually had a lot of good logistical advice for large families.
