DH is a city officer, and does pretty well, but his best friend is an Illinois State Trooper and makes almost 100K per year....and he's only been a trooper for 10 years. Not sure what the dad on the show does, but he could make a pretty good salary.

On the original topic, I think I'm gonna love this family. They seem so down to earth (unlike the Gosselins) and not all churchy and Quiverfull like the Duggars. Very refreshing!

I think a big part of dad's job is going to schools to talk about drugs with students.

Where does this family live? I can't tell from the show - I am guessing somewhere in the Northeast?

I adore them also!

Their accents definitely sound northern to me.

I like the fact that each show has something different to offer viewers. Nothing wrong with the Gosselins or the Duggars and how they each live I guess, it's just refreshing to have a new family to enjoy watching.

The mom (Betty? - I think) seems so calm and down to earth. I loved the episode at Christmas. And the episode where dad made a cake for mom. The dad seems very involved with his kids and he seems so "natural" about it and not like he's putting on for the camera.

Was the xmas one the one with New Years too? That was the one I saw and I really fell in love with them. I love how that night, the kids rule the house and stay up and eat whatever. Nice to NOT see structure on a show!

I am completely in love with the oldest son that takes care of the little one with CP a lot! He is so natural and sweet with her. He is going to make a fine husband to someone with all of that natural compassion! I just adore him!

I agree. The last episode where the mom let Tara have a cookie after dinner even though she wouldn't eat all of her pasta was so sweet. Betty commented that she was a softie. She made Tara eat 4 bites and then said she could have the cookie. I thought it was absolutely sweet. This made me think of Kate Gosselin and how she refused to let a couple of her kids eat their own cupcakes for their birthday just because they didn't finish their dinner that evening. I hated that episode. She has no idea how to discipline properly in certain situations.

It does seem like on Table for 12 that the Hayes probably should use some type of discipline at times but they don't unless I've missed it. But at the same time Kate Gosselin uses time-out way too much. So each family is extremely different in how they parent their children. But the Hayes children do seem so much happier and the parents are more hands-on with them IMO.

I told my friends the other day that I think I adore Table for 12, and that it's 12 times better than Jon & Kate.

I love the older brother who looks after the sister with CP.

I love that the parents seem to work well together as a team -- well, aside from the cookie after not finishing dinner.

The household just seems so much more relaxed! Sure, the four-year-olds are running around being four-year-olds, but there's little tension.

Ah, but everything is negotiable.

I love this family. The dad was killing me last night when the boys brought him a lego thing they made for him. He thanked them, then after they walked away he said something like "Thanks for leaving it here for me to clean up!" LOL! So familiar! His comments just crack me up, and he is so good with the kids. It is nice to see a good dad who interacts so well with his kids on TV.

I think both parents probably would have given in on the cookie ordeal. We have done that in our house. We're only human. It won't ruin the kid.

I agree that it seems like no tension in this house. I watched the episode where the Hayes traveled on the road to Canada and while Betty seemed stressed in a few scenes, it was normal motherly stress that most moms would probably get, nothing like Kate G. has exhibited on almost every single trip they have taken on their show. She can't seem to handle any amount of stress. And when Rebecca puked in the van on the trip...could you imagine how Kate G would have handled that one. lol. She would have gone ballistic first and then cleaned it up, but not before making her poor child feel like a moron first.

I love this show and I love this family. I can relate to the mom and the dad is sweet and funny. My daughter has CP (far less involved than Rebecca) and it's helpful to me to see a child with CP and what they do with her (loved the hippotherapy episode). But I also appreciate that they don't exploit her disability.
