My best friend's dad has been diagnosed with pretty assuredly terminal cancer. She lives overseas, and came stateside to see him. I drove up with my 2 girls to see all of them this weekend. I am staying an extra day or so as the news has gotten worse.
My question is how do I help her through this? She is not close to her dad and is having conflicting emotions regarding his passing. I tell her that it is normal and ok to have such different emotions. What is the best way to support her? I couldn't be there when her mom passed. Her mom was like a mom to me, and she died suddenly when we were 22. I just couldn't afford to go be with her then. Now I have more means, and want to be here. Should I stay, should I try to get her to talk about it? What is the best way to help here?
